The Blogsmith needs help with account management tasks. We have a project manager who stays on top of day-to-day assignments with our internal team. We’re looking to hire someone to own client relationships and communications by working with our Project Manager, Content Manager, and team members (like writers and editors) who work close to client projects. This role needs to have a big picture understanding of each role while being responsible for the fine details others might miss.
In this role, you’ll be expected to:
– Communicate client needs for further action to internal team members.
– Act as the liaison between clients and writers by sending deliverables, responding to emails, and conveying writer questions. – – Use project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello, etc.) to ensure everyone involved is up to date.
Own each client relationship, proactively stepping in to facilitate each step of the content delivery process (ideation, scoping, writing, editing, and billing).
– Understand and cross-train on related project management tasks as needed.
– Onboard new clients and work to set expectations and communication cadence.
– Create a daily status report for each client, including if we’re waiting on details or need to take action on something.
– Enter client communications in the HubSpot CMS (no experience required — training will be provided). Compose weekly emails for each client to share what we’ve done in the current week and what we have planned for the coming week.
– Update project status, client info, and miscellaneous data in our project tracker and Airtable on a daily basis, so everyone has what they need to do their jobs.
– Connecting the dots between clients, projects, and our team members. Identifying and preventing bottlenecks to ensure operations run smoothly.
– Take calls between clients and relevant team members as necessary via Zoom using our premium account.
– Manage the mayhem of communicating with a distributed team and dealing with clients and vendors as a kind and courteous professional.
– Ideally, be familiar with or have an interest in SEO and content marketing topics.
– Care about the details. You follow and understand our process but register when clients have unique needs and work hard to ensure the team meets them.
– Be more than just a go-between. Help management solve tough client issues.
You can work whenever is most convenient for you, with a few stipulations:
– You can be available for ~3–5 hours/day between 9am–5pm MST to take client meetings as needed/set according to your preferred availability.
– You’re able to respond to team communications within 24 hours on Monday–Friday via email and Slack.
– You can consistently provide timely communications with clients that move projects forward daily and meet occasional project deadlines outside of typical client comms.
Previous experience in a client-facing account management role required. You’ll jump to the top of our list if you also have marketing agency experience.
Why The Account Manager Role Matters for The Blogsmith
The Blogsmith helps B2B technology and other niche companies connect with their target audience via search.
Our core offering:
Relevant, high-quality content that matches the technical use of SEO keywords with the fulfillment of expectations based on the assumptions behind search intent.
You’ll be helping us keep our agency running efficiently and maintain client relationships in a way that adds value to our core offering.
A great account manager can mean the difference between ending a client relationship prematurely or retaining the client indefinitely.
Here’s the bottom line:
We don’t just want to create content for content’s sake — we explore topics with a unique stance so that we’re providing a unique benefit (compared to similar content). The account manager helps us do this by gathering each client’s specific insights and feedback and meticulously championing their needs as an advocate. By owning this role, you help The Blogsmith position ourselves as capable of meeting clients’ needs and surpassing expectations.
Soft Skill + Availability Requirements
– Good communication skills: Because you’ll be interfacing directly with clients and our business focuses on high-quality written communication, a mastery of the nuance involved in professional communications is required for this role.
– Good interpersonal skills: In addition to being able to communicate clearly, account managers should be good at managing relationships with internal and external collaborators. Regardless of emotions, you will be expected to communicate as a courteous professional with our internal team and external clients and vendors.
– Problem-solving skills: When there’s an issue, Blogsmith teammates use their resources and consult with relevant team members to get it solved before it becomes a bigger issue.
– Organization/planning skills: Successful team members don’t wait until the day a task is due to get their questions answered or address any issues.
– Write “Hi Maddy” (in addition to any questions or comments you have) at the end of the application form so that I know you’re paying attention to detail.
– Good time-management skills: You’ll be working with fellow team members and clients to accomplish tasks related to producing great content. We sometimes have tight internal and external deadlines, so timely responsiveness during the workweek is necessary to work on this team. A customer service background would help with this.
– A passion for quality: For our team to create great content, you have to take an interest in the process and help maintain a high-quality standard.
– Ability to self-manage: You are responsible for keeping the processes moving and fulfilling client and team needs without being micromanaged.
Proactive project management: To stay on top of all the moving parts of projects and client communication, you’ll need to work to stay informed, asking for updates and clarifications when necessary.
Benefits and Compensation
– $13/hour for 20+ hours/week (if you have more availability, share it when applying — there’s a possibility this could grow to full-time).

– Gain experience working with respected and well-known clients.
– Work with a woman-owned and operated business with a diverse team.
– Up to one hour per week continuing education credit: We’ll pay you (hourly rate) for you to learn new things related to content marketing.
