Job Description:
We are currently seeking an Accountant with a deep specialization in Canadian tax law to join our team on a subscription basis. This role is designed for a professional who brings a wealth of experience in both domestic and international tax planning and compliance, with a specific focus on Canadian regulations. The ideal candidate will serve as a strategic advisor, leveraging their technical expertise to support our clients through complex tax legislation, optimize tax positions, and ensure compliance with all Canadian tax obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct thorough analyses of financial statements and tax returns to identify strategic opportunities for tax minimization in accordance with Canadian law.
• Lead in the preparation and review of complex tax returns for a diverse clientele, including individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian tax legislation.
• Develop and implement comprehensive tax planning strategies to support long-term financial goals and minimize tax liabilities.
• Provide expert consultation on Canadian tax matters, including cross-border tax implications, GST/HST, payroll taxes, and corporate tax planning.
• Stay current on federal and provincial tax laws and regulations, analyzing implications and developing proactive strategies to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
• Advise on tax-efficient restructuring, mergers, and acquisitions, and assist in due diligence processes.
• Facilitate client discussions, presenting complex tax concepts and strategies in an understandable manner.
• Collaborate with external auditors and legal counsel on tax-related issues and audits.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation required; additional credentials (e.g., In-Depth Tax Course, Master of Taxation) highly regarded.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive tax experience with a focus on Canadian tax compliance and strategy.
• Demonstrated expertise in the interpretation and application of Canadian tax legislation and case law.
• Proficient with tax preparation software and advanced in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
Requirements:
• Proven track record of managing multiple client engagements and delivering high-quality tax advisory services.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical tax issues to non-specialist audiences.
• Strong leadership qualities and experience in mentoring junior staff.
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment and adaptable to changing priorities.
