Job Description

At NLN, the Controller is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial management and reporting functions of the client (member) organization. The Controller ensures timely and accurate financial reporting in the members general ledger systems, ensuring compliance with regulations, and leads the bookkeeping and accounting team. The Controller collaborates with the US based Controller(s) and CFO(s), offers financial insights, and drives decision-making to achieve the members’ financial objectives. Will be responsible for direct management of all bookkeepers and accountants assigned.

Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management and Strategy:
• Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures aligned with the organization’s goals.
• Assists in the financial planning and analysis processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to the US Controller(s) and CFO(s) for strategic decision-making.
• Review financial performance, analyze trends, and identify opportunities for improvement and shares with the US Controller(s) and CFO(s).
2. Financial Reporting and Compliance:
• Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with accounting standards and regulations.
• Oversee internal controls, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are constructed to minimize errors, adjusting as necessary.
• Assist in external audits, acting as a liaison with US Controller(s) and addressing audit findings.
• Maintain a strong understanding of accounting standards and update internal policies accordingly.
3. Team Leadership and Development:
• Lead, support, and manage the accounting team, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative remote work environment.
• Set performance expectations, conduct performance evaluations, and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
• Drive the professional development of the accounting team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
4. Strategic Analysis and Business Partnership:
• Support the US Controller(s) and CFO(s) in financial analysis, including variance analysis, profitability analysis, and cost analysis.
5. Risk Management and Internal Controls:
• Implement and maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks, providing recommendations for risk management strategies.

Skills Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
• Significant experience in financial management, accounting, and reporting; in a leadership role.
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting standards (e.g., GAAP and IFRS).
• Strong understanding of internal controls, risk management, and compliance requirements.
• Advanced proficiency in financial management systems, ERP software, and advanced MS Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Outstanding English communication
• Solid interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to direct and supervise others utilizing soft skills that motivate and garner respect from all staff.
• High level of integrity, ethics, and trustworthiness
• Continual process improvement and willingness to change and adapt.

Successful Mastery
1. Ensure accuracy of financial transaction recording in all ledgers.
2. Timely and accurate monthly close of members financial systems; consistently
3. Identify and improve financial controls to reduce risk.
4. Analyze financial results and summarize financial status to US Controller(s) and CFO(s)
5. Audit ready balance sheet, revenue, and cost reconciliations – including flux analysis for BS and PL.
6. Identify and communicate issues to US Controller(s) and CFO(s) for cost savings, revenue opportunities, and budget adjustments.
7. Successful management of team to meet goals and objectives.
