Job Description

We are looking for a long-term team member who will primarily serve as our bookkeeper for our online membership community. (Please check out ) We are just setting up the financial systems and will be using Xero/Gusto to manage our accounts. In addition to basic bookkeeping tasks, we want this person to create regular reports about the status of the business, as well as “what-if” financial scenarios. This should be an area where you have at least 2 years of success. Beyond the primary work related to bookkeeping, this person will also support responding to customer emails and issues that occur related to membership, subscriptions, etc. Because we are a small team, we need to hire a person who is flexible and does not mind occasionally taking on other small projects once the financial systems are well organized. This job could be arranged to be between 25-40 hours a week.

Work schedule: We are based in the US (Central Time) and need this team member who can overlap with our regular Monday-Friday work hours, at least partially most days. If you are used to working nights, that is fine, but it is not necessary. You could also work a split schedule where you do most of your work during the day in the Philippines and then just a couple hours a day in the evening or early morning so that we can overlap and discuss any issues or complex tasks. In general, if the work is getting done on time, at a high quality, and you are communicative, you can have a great deal of flexibility around the actual hours worked. This could be an excellent job for someone who has responsibilities with childcare or family care. We do not want to hire someone who already has a full-time job with another employer.

Work Culture: Our organization is based on spreading self-compassion to the world. Our communication with our members is extremely warm and supportive, and we also treat our team members with that warmth and support. If you would like to speak to our current employees about work culture, that can be arranged at a later stage of the hiring process.

About us: Kristin Neff is a pioneer researcher in self-compassion who recently retired from her lifelong work in academia and is now starting the Self-Compassion Community. Melissa, her business manager and the main person you will be interacting with has two years of experience working with Filipino workers. The small team is divided between the US (1 full-time and 4 part-time) and the Philippines (2 full-time and 1 part-time).

When you apply, please demonstrate you have read this post. We will not respond to generic, copy-and-paste responses. Please give us at least this information as a starting place
1) How long have you worked with bookkeeping?
2) Of that time, how much was under a more senior bookkeeper, and how much was independent?
3) How much have you worked with Xero?
4) What are your salary expectations?
5) Do you prefer a part-time or full-time schedule?

Only applicants who follow these instructions will be considered. Feel free to include any other information that shows why you would be a great addition to the Self-Compassion Team.
