Job Description

The Chief Engineer is responsible in managing and overseeing the maintenance and repair of the hotel’s rooms, facilities, equipment and all property assets to ensure that everything is working properly, safe and up to the hotel’s operating standards. He/ she shall also be the technical coordinator in the hotel’s renovation project and shall ensure that all construction activities are secured, according to plan and on time. He/ she will be coordinating with his maintenance team as well as purchasing department, hotel operations and third party contractors.

Responsibilities

1) Complete maintenance work orders from all departments on a timely basis by following hotels standard operating procedures.

2) Perform day-to-day routine and preventative maintenance within the hotel rooms and public areas.

3) Respond promptly and efficiently to any maintenance calls that arise either by the guest or other departments.

4) Respond courteously to guest requests promptly and resolve matters to the guest’s satisfaction.

5) Able to prioritize the maintenance issues e.g.: to attend the breakdown of machinery on priority.

6) Perform maintenance activities in the guest rooms and public areas including but not limited to electrical equipment, plumbing, air conditioning, generator, refrigeration, FDAS, electronics, furniture and fixtures

7) Program TV’s and perform general housekeeping and engineering-related inventory duties.

8) Test, troubleshoot and perform basic repair on all types of equipment and look after the smooth functioning of all machinery and equipment

9) To monitor FDAS systems as necessary, to be fully informed of the system operation and to handle emergencies involving the systems.

10) Understand and operate electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, water systems and STP.

11) Communicate with different departments and to provide them with information and assistance.

12) Check for new maintenance requests e.g.: OOO – Out of Service and OOO – Out of Order from the PMS (Property Management System) and update remarks once the task is completed.

13) Able to use your wits and technical abilities to solve problems and make repairs effectively and efficiently.

14) Able to maintain a daily logbook of work done during the shift and endorsing to the next shift.

15) Able to take regular briefing and delegate duties to the Engineering supervisors and maintenance technicians.

16) Able to take charge of a shift of eight to nine working hours (Morning, Afternoon, Night or Break Shift).

17) Enter all guest complaints and back of the house complaints as soon as they are received at the engineering control desk log book.

18) Execute the preventative maintenance schedule and ensure all equipment and designated areas are maintained to the required standard.

19) Analyze recurring complaints so that technicians can rectify the problems on the permanent basis.

20) Responsible to take decisions when the duty manager or general manager is not available

21) Maintain all tools, equipment, and working areas in good condition.

22) Maintain the engineering working area and control desk in a good condition always.

23) Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.

24) Train and instruct other members of the staff through sharing of knowledge and skills.

25) Oversee and manage all construction related activities, reviewing the contractor’s progress reports and billings

26) Perform any other job assigned by the management as and when required.
