Job Description

West Coast Tree Service, Inc., is a family owned and operated vegetation management company in the State of California in the USA. In this role, you will leverage your expertise to provide strategic financial insights, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive financial efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

Request, collect, and compile all necessary documents
Review corporate and personal income tax returns
Advise business owners and individuals regarding the tax code
Process state and federal payroll taxes
Daily Reconcile bank and other financial statements
Maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations at all times
Maintain constant communication with the IRS, State Agencies, and local Government Agencies
Keep highly organized and updated client files
Represent Corporation and Corporate Owners during any type of audit
Review and pay invoices to our vendors
Approve expense reports from other employees
Create quarterly financial reports
Create monthly financial reports
Create weekly financial reports
Work with procurement department to ensure proper payment from customers
Keep highly organized and updated employee and corporate owner files
Collaborate with departmental leadership to ensure smooth, accurate reporting processes
Assist with project planning and recommend implementation changes that could ease the organization’s tax burden
Prepare and present quarterly reports detailing relevant tax information
Work with leadership and key stakeholders to create a predictable tax season
Develop and maintain cost accounting system, documentation, and records
Determine the costs and efficiency of company purchasing activities
Review costs for all external inventory, labor, and material purchases
Analyze and recommend costs and cost savings
Collect and compile purchasing data for analysis
Prepare and complete internal cost audits
Review and document inventory and material purchases
Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements
Prepare documents and interpret financial information regarding cost improvements for managers, executives, and C-Suite executives
Maintain company accounting procedures and processes
Present cost estimates and budgets for new purchases
Accurate record and update existing and new purchased materials and goods
Compile documentation on standard costs and company production costs
Assist in audits and general ledger preparation
Forecasts and plans future purchasing costs according to fiscal needs
Perform or oversee internal audits to assess risk
Ensure employee compliance with regulations and established policies
Implement or update internal controls to reduce risk
Recommend changes to the business process
Maintain documentation of all audit procedures

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other relevant field
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in good standing
Minimum 5 years of experience as a CPA in a corporate setting
Corporate and personal tax experience is a plus
Exceptional computer skills, including Microsoft Office and databases
Familiarity with financial statements
Outstanding communication skills
Able to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
Remote work experience
Strong computer proficiency
Preferred Sage Intact accounting experience
Expert-level knowledge of standard accounting software
Strong understanding of corporate tax laws and processes
Knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Minimum 5 years of previous accounting, bookkeeping, or related experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Familiar with depreciating assets
MBA or equivalent is a plus
Analytical skills
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is a plus
Experience with landscape, general contractor or construction accounting is a plus
