The operations manager/dispatcher is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our local moving company with 7 or more fleet vehicles and 25 or more employees. Day to day operations include: hiring, training, and motivating movers/drivers; controlling costs; managing daily logistics; and consistently exceeding customer expectations. The operations manager/dispatcher ensures the company is consistently operating in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The operations manager/dispatcher should have general knowledge of hiring, training, fleet maintenance, and scheduling.

The ideal candidate is comfortable with a fast-paced environment and believes in doing whatever it takes to get the job done and exceed the customer’s expectations. Someone who has had to supervise others in the past and is looking to take the next step in their career. Fleet maintenance experience is a major plus. A positive go-getter attitude is a requirement.

Job Responsibilities

• Determines staffing requirements, interviews, hires and trains new employees
• Responsible for employee accountability and adherence to company standards and policies
• Directs employee scheduling and dispatch of movers and drivers
• Moderates employee hours to keep enough staff on hand and keep overtime to a minimum
• Responsible for employee development and corrective action programs
• Troubleshoots employee/truck issues
• Oversees all workers compensation and unemployment claims
• Coordinates and directs the fleet maintenance and equipment inventory programs
• Ensures compliance with all Florida and USDOT regulations and guidelines
• Oversees customer concerns and damage resolution processes
• Responsible for being or designating the “on-call” emergency contact outside of normal business hours
• Reviews financial performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement

Job Requirements

• Responsible for the direction and day-to-day supervision of all movers and drivers and Assistant Operations Managers
• Associate’s Degree in logistics, management, or other related field is preferred
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
• Familiarity with fleet maintenance and dispatch is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to lead by example to motivate, develop, and direct people
• Ability to assess the performance of employees to make improvements or take corrective action
• Strong decision making ability
• Clean driving record and the ability to drive a 26 foot straight truck
• Understanding of and commitment to customer service
• Must be proficient with the following Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, Outlook
• Excellent oral and written comprehension and communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
* Fluency in English is required; Spanish proficiency is preferred but not necessary.
