We’re seeking a budget priced Academic Writer and Researcher for a potentially long-term contract for a popular website for exercise professionals. You must have at least a bachelor’s degree (graduate level preferred) and experience in academic research, editing, and writing and live in a country and region with a low cost of living.
Primary duties may include research journal articles, writing, and editing academic based articles. Topics will vary but will initially focus on proofing, editing and enhancing existing articles on nutrition and exercise prescription for special populations (those with medical issues) and specific populations, injury, pharmacology, and diet research. Future topics may include exercise physiology, sports and exercise psychology, biomechanics, motor skill and development, and nutrition. You will also be expected to coordinate reviews and maintain correspondence with our board of editors consisting of PhDs and Medical Doctors through email and Google Docs.
Other duties will vary based on the projects we’re currently working on as well as your aptitude and past experience (eg: data analysis, customer service, graphics, etc). Besides taking notes during meetings, other duties may include editing website pages, preparing and editing diagrams, editing images, preparing documentation, project management, data entry, data analysis, general research, grant writing, copywriting, general internet research, taking notes from lecture videos for research, assisting our Webmaster and Developers with various tasks, and other miscellaneous duties as required.
Understanding of health related science is a plus but not required, particularly if you have experience in another natural science related field. You must have excellent verbal and written communication, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. You’ll also need to be punctual, detail oriented, and be able to follow verbal and written directions, communicate, manage expectations, work independently, take and organize meeting notes, adjust according to feedback, while being able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. In addition, you’ll also need a reliable internet connection, electricity, and have the ability to communicate verbally via Skype or Google Hangouts.
In order for us to get a sense if you can communicate effectively, follow written instructions, and pick up on details, you will be asked to answer a series of questions before we consider scheduling an interview. We prefer candidates who can work full-time but we will consider those who can only work part-time (at least 20 hours per week). This is potentially a long term position for the right candidate, depending upon performance. This means you spend more time earning money and less time searching for your next job.
