Experienced Senior PHP 5-7 Programmer

We are looking for someone who is well experienced with PHP5-7 and basic use of Linux. You should be able to hit the ground running, working independently with only a bit of guidance from our senior programmer. We have a challenging coding environment as we have a lot of legacy code that has passed through many hands over the last 20 years. We work exclusively within a LINUX environment, so you need enough familiarity with LINUX that you aren’t challenged using it as an OS.

ChalkPort is a small business team in Australia with each member of staff working remotely from home, including several overseas staff. We provide our clients with a small suite of proprietary cloud software supported by quality processes and consultancy. We value loyalty, hard work and reliability.

Our team has been together for many years and we employ people on the understanding that they will be part of a stable, long-term team. Some of our software is quite large so it can take a while for new programmers to get used to coding for our software; we have an expectation that any new programmers will need a few months of familiarising themselves with the intricacies of our code before they will become truly useful to us. We are definitely not looking for anyone seeking short-term employment.

Expected salary
Starting salary is negotiable and there is a guaranteed annual 3% raise per year, 2 weeks paid vacation over Xmas, and 2 weeks sick leave that can be taken as needed.

Full time, long term work.

Work environment
You will be expected to work from home using your own equipment. This means you need a stable internet connection and computer from which to work from. ChalkPort manages all staff via a skype group chat and you will be expected to able to respond to questions, tasks or requests for assistance at any time during work hours unless you are on a lunch break. Occasionally (though rarely), this may mean a skype voice or video chat session for complex issues.

Expected work times
Most of our Filipino staff work from 7am to 3pm Filipino time, but 8am to 4pm is also acceptable if that suits you better.

We work Monday – Friday according to the Australian business calendar. This may mean that you may need to work through some local holidays, but will gain days off on Australian holidays. We have a two-week break also over the Christmas period.

It is incredibly rare that anyone is asked to work overtime and if so it is paid for this time. The only time we have ever asked staff to work outside of normal work hours is in the case of an extreme emergency where clients experience downtime or data loss due to some sort of server/cloud failure. However, over the last decade, ChalkPort has had a record of 99.94% uptime.
