Job Description

We’re seeking a full-time Financial Planning Associate with a passion for financial planning. You’ll work side-by-side with Rick to support our current Financial Zen Members. As part of a small, growing firm, you’ll also help iterate and improve our systems and infrastructure.
What’s in it for you:
– An opportunity to impact lives. You’ll work for something bigger than yourself and more importantly, you’ll witness the positive impact you help create in other people’s lives.
– An opportunity to advance as quickly as you can. You’ll take on continually increasing roles and responsibilities as you continue to grow and level up. Your climb is only limited by your stamina.
– An opportunity to help build something. You’ll be a part of a growing firm that doesn’t play small. Our ambition is nothing short of disrupting the industry and making financial planning available for everyone, not just the wealthy.
– An opportunity to learn quickly and collapse time. You’ll work side-by-side with the lead planner with 15 years of industry experience. You’ll gain more “street knowledge” about financial planning and the business in a shorter amount of time than you ever could at a large firm.
– An opportunity to enjoy an ideal work/life balance. You’ll benefit from a low-stress environment with reasonable hours and no expectation to work outside of business hours.
– An opportunity to work with young clients. You’ll help Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z get on the path to financial independence at an early age where you can make the biggest impact.
About Financial Zen:
After 8 years at a big brokerage firm helping Baby Boomers, Rick realized the biggest impact a financial planner can have is at the START of someone’s financial journey, not the end. But the financial planning industry isn’t set up to help people early in their lives. So he struck out on his own, starting Financial Zen in 2016 to build a financial planning firm exclusively for younger generations.
Our mission is to guide our members to financial independence as quickly and comfortably as possible. We believe that the faster we can help people get out of the rat race, the sooner they’ll be able to apply their unique abilities to make their own dent in the universe.
We get our members on the fast track to financial independence through MONTHLY Accountability and Implementation Meetings (aka A.I.M.). We go beyond just managing money and achieving financial goals. More importantly, we educate and coach our members into making increasingly smarter financial decisions and holding them accountable to themselves.
After growing 20% year-over-year since inception, in 2022 we expanded over 40% and we’re now ready to scale. With a proven service model and efficient systems in place, we’re positioned to blow up (in a good way). We just need the right people in place.
Initial Responsibilities:
– You will be client-facing from Day One. Within the first 90 days, you’ll become the first line of communication with our members through email, phone, and Zoom
– You will actively participate in client meetings taking notes, updating action items and assisting the lead planner in optimizing our face-time with our members.
– You will be in charge of keeping the lead planner and our members well organized through diligent upkeep of our project management technology, (no previous experience required).
– You will be responsible for keeping our Members’ Financial Zen Workbooks up-to-date (FZ Workbooks are proprietary spreadsheet models used to track members’ financial stats).
– You will be the liaison with Charles Schwab and other vendors to ensure a smooth member experience.
– You will assist in preparing for and following up from client meetings including updating spreadsheets and uploading reports and supporting documents
– You will assist in completing competitor research projects
Qualifications:
– Passionate about financial planning
– Excitement around working with young clients from diverse backgrounds
– Well organized and self-driven (will be expected to self-manage and meet deadlines)
– Attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
– Willingness to learn new technology software as needed
– 1-2 years of previous industry experience
– Bonus points for experience with Google Workspace, Zoom, Excel/Sheets, eMoney, Riskalyze, Orion
Next Steps:
Along with your resume, include a short message (3-4 paragraphs) telling us about yourself, your professional history and your career aspirations.
