Fractional CFO for Small Publishing Company (Using Xero)

**Position Overview:**
We are seeking a seasoned Fractional CFO to guide both the financial and strategic trajectory of our growing publishing business. An ideal candidate will exhibit a profound grasp of financial management and strategy, with a preference for those familiar with the publishing realm. Mastery over Xero accounting software is essential. While the position is part-time, it calls for an engaged, hands-on approach and sustained collaboration with our senior management team.

**Key Responsibilities:**

1. **Financial Strategy & Planning:**
* Spearhead financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning.
* Monitor financial performance, contrasting it with strategic goals.
* Design and refine cash flow strategies to align with operational necessities, including cash flow forecasting and monitoring.

2. **Financial Reporting & Analysis:**
* Curate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
* Dive deep into financial analysis to appraise the profitability of various business segments, titles, or initiatives.
* Utilize Xero to guarantee timely and accurate financial statements.

3. **Operational Oversight:**
* Liaise with different departments to interweave financial and operational strategies.
* Aid in contract negotiations from a monetary perspective.
* Supervise bookkeeping activities and ensure comprehensive reconciliation of all accounts on Xero.

4. **Risk Management:**
* Evaluate and mitigate financial risks associated with contracts, operations, and market dynamics.
* Confirm that the company’s insurance coverage is both adequate and economically viable.

5. **Compliance & Governance:**
* Uphold strict adherence to all financial regulations and standards.
* Interface with external auditors and gear up for annual audits.
* Steer tax planning efforts and guarantee punctual and precise tax submissions.

6. **Strategic Advisory:**
* Function as a strategic confidant to the CEO/Owner, furnishing insights, financial projections, and actionable recommendations.
* Play an instrumental role in critical decisions as a member of the executive management team.
* Provide counsel on potential partnerships, acquisitions, or novel business opportunities.

**Qualifications:**

* Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or analogous discipline; an MBA or CPA would be advantageous.
* A minimum of 2 years in a CFO role or an equivalent senior financial management capacity.
* Proficiency in Xero accounting software is non-negotiable.
* Acute analytical, strategic planning, and organizational prowess.
* Stellar interpersonal and communication capabilities.
* A proclivity for working with both autonomy and unwavering integrity.
