I’m looking for a general VA with a knack for graphic design that will help me with running two websites in the food niche. You’ll be creating graphics, updating existing and creating new WordPress posts (formatting, adding images, etc., no content writing), scheduling social media posts, and researching the info I need to create content.
Your workday will vary. Some days, you’ll spend more time creating graphics; other times, you’ll be researching info for a longer article or spending a couple of hours creating and scheduling Pinterest posts. I’ll also ask you for feedback on various ideas and expect you to come up with improvements to our processes.
If you’re the right person, you’ll be able to learn new stuff on the job, test your own ideas, and grow with the position.
**QUALITIES**
Here are the most important qualities I’m looking for:
– Honesty. If you mess up, I want to know first.
– Clear communication. Don’t beat around the bush, and be direct about what you want or need.
– Attention to detail.
– Self-motivated. I won’t be constantly looking over your shoulder to make sure work is being done. That’s your responsibility.
– Being proactive. I’m looking for someone who follows directions but also goes above and beyond what’s expected. That means if you find any issues in our processes or places where we can improve, you let me know and suggest improvements.
– Eager to learn & try new stuff. I have operating procedures and templates for many things, but you’ll sometimes have to come up with solutions, try them, and come back with results.
These are crucial if we’re to work together long-term. If you just want to clock in, do a couple of tasks as instructed without giving it a second thought, and call it a day, please don’t apply. That approach is perfectly fine, but not for this position.
I’m looking for someone who will suggest improvements and changes and has their own ideas they’d like to test or explore. And someone who’d like to become a leader of a small team in the future.
**TASKS:
– Creating graphics using existing templates & content in Canva, including graphics to put in blog posts and on Pinterest.
– Creating new templates in Canva.
– Editing photos in Lightroom.
– Scheduling Pinterest posts. That includes researching and writing descriptions and titles, creating graphics (as per above), and scheduling everything using the native scheduler.
– Formatting WordPress posts. That includes moving existing content from Notion to WordPress, uploading and inserting graphics, and scheduling publication.
– Researching and gathering information. That means searching for certain information on trustworthy sites, compiling that information, and sometimes summarizing or drawing insights from it. For instance, I’d ask you to research statistics on a certain topic, and besides pulling the raw data, I’d ask you to list interesting and non-obvious takeaways.
– Running a Facebook page. That includes creating graphics specifically for FB and adding a post every time we publish a new article.
**REQUIREMENTS:**
– Available for full-time work.
– Speak & write in fluent English.
– Like food and know a bit about cooking. The content I’m creating is all about food, so I need you to be fairly fluent in this stuff. The basics are enough – I just don’t want you to google what a tomato or green onion looks like before working on a related article or recipe.
– Graphic design experience needed – though Canva templates will be used, you MUST have a good aesthetic sense (spacing, colors, scales, etc.). You will be working with Lightroom to edit photos and Canva to create graphics.
– Quick learner – you’ll be using a number of tools, so it’s important for you to be able to pick them up quickly. (No worries, training will be provided.)
– Computer (Windows or MacOS) that can run Lightroom CC (/lightroom-cc/). Training in using the app will be provided if needed. I’ll ask you to do a simple Lightroom CC task during the interview to make sure you can run it.
**SOFTWARE YOU’LL USE:**
– Canva (you need to know the basics, you can learn the rest on the job)
– WordPress (adding & updating posts)
– Lightroom (basic editing, you can learn this on the job)
– Notion (for handling tasks and worklogs, you can learn this on the job)
– Slack (for async communication)
– Pinterest (for researching and scheduling pins, you can learn this on the job)
– Facebook (we can learn this together)
– Google Drive for moving files around and grabbing existing ones
– Internet Browser for researching stuff
**PROVIDED:**
– Video training & SOPs for each task
– Access to Canva Pro & internal Canva templates to get you started.
– Extra $10 on top of your salary for your basic Lightroom subscription.
**BENEFITS:**
– Flexible schedule. I’m happy to work with your schedule as long as work is being done and we can set up a short sync meeting every week or two.
– 2 weeks paid time off, all national holidays off, 13th month pay, and 2 weeks unpaid time off. Those are pro-rated and kick in after the first month of full-time work.
**HOURS:** 40 hours/week
**RATE:** $500/month
**INTERVIEW PROCESS:**
1. Respond to this posting.
2. Answer follow-up questions.
3. A 30-60 min text-based live interview where you’ll answer a few questions and do a couple of small tasks similar to what you’ll do when working for me.
4. 1-4 week paid (full pay) test period to check if we’re a good fit.
5. Full-time hire if we’re both happy about how things work out.
**HOW TO RESPOND:**
Reply to this job posting with the following:
– a link to your resume
– a couple of examples of graphic design work you’ve done, preferably with food and using Canva, along with a short description. If you need to prepare these from scratch, grab a couple of food photos from Unsplash and turn them into Pinterest-friendly posts using Canva
– include the word “eggplant” somewhere in your response.
– write a couple of sentences about why you’re the right candidate for this job. Be specific, and definitely don’t write an essay.
– include a screenshot of your Internet speed
