Graphics/Book Designer/Illustrator

We are a small publishing company that creates and publishes Christian and educational books.
We are seeking a talented and creative Book Designer with expertise in formatting and designing various types of books, including coloring books with illustrations, activity books, devotionals, journals, and more.

As a Book Designer, you will be responsible for creating visually captivating layouts, illustrations, and designs that enhance the overall reading experience.

Responsibilities:
Book Formatting: Format manuscripts for print and digital publication, ensuring consistency, readability, and adherence to industry standards.

Book Design: Design captivating and visually appealing layouts for books, considering the target audience, genre, and purpose of each publication.

Illustrations and Graphics: Create original illustrations, graphics, and artwork that enhance the content and engage readers. Collaborate with authors, editors, and other stakeholders to ensure the visual elements align with the book’s theme and tone.

Typography: Select appropriate fonts and typography styles that complement the book’s content, genre, and target audience. Ensure consistent and visually pleasing typography throughout the book.

Cover Design: Develop eye-catching and professional book covers that grab attention and accurately represent the book’s content. Collaborate with authors and marketing team to create covers that appeal to the target market.

Software Proficiency: Utilize design tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign to create and modify book layouts, illustrations, and graphics. Stay updated with the latest design trends and software features.

Attention to Detail: Pay meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accurate alignment, spacing, and consistency in design elements, illustrations, and typography.

Time Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously and adhere to deadlines. Prioritize tasks effectively to ensure timely delivery of book designs.

Collaboration: Work closely with authors, editors, and other team members to understand their vision and requirements. Incorporate feedback and revisions into the design process to achieve the desired outcome.

Thumbnail Design (Bonus): Ability to design brilliant and attractive YouTube thumbnails that grab attention and entice viewers to click. Utilize design principles and creativity to create thumbnails that accurately represent the video content and branding.

Requirements:
Proven experience as a Book Designer or similar role, with a strong portfolio showcasing book designs, formatting, and illustrations.

Proficiency in design tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign.

Solid understanding of typography, layout design, color theory, and composition principles.

Knowledge of print production processes, including file formats, resolutions, and color modes.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with authors, editors, and other team members.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines without compromising on quality.

Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics.

Knowledge of YouTube thumbnail design principles and an ability to create compelling thumbnails (an added advantage).

Ability to provide samples or portfolio of your previous designs will be an added advantage.
Shortlisted applicants may be asked to work on a paid trial project as part of the interview.
