We are seeking a highly experienced, proactive, HR Payroll Specialist to join our evolving, fast-paced start-up team.

Position Title: HR Payroll Specialist (Paylocity & )

Location: Although IPI headquarters is in Boulder, Colorado, this role is fully remote/virtual

Work Status: Independent Contractor

Hours: Hours are flexible based on your time zone, but we are seeking someone who enjoys working in US Eastern and Central time zones, as there will often be times when you will need to connect over Zoom with leadership and colleagues across the US.

This opportunity requires you to dedicate approximately 15- 20 hours per week to this role.

Tech Requirements:
• Your computer and technology setup must support large file video editing including (photo proof to be provided)
• High-speed internet, over 90 mbs—speed test required

Start Date: As soon as possible

Term: Part-time contract. May lead to full-time and/or long term

Rate: $10-15 per hour USD, depending on experience up to $25 per hour

Experience:
• 3+ years of Payroll Specialist experience in a US-based company with 100+ W2 employees and 1099 contractors
• 2+ years experience each with Paylocity and
• 2+ Google Sheets or Excel experience
• Great interpersonal skills, both verbal and written with the ability to communicate in English confidently and professionally
• Ability to work within a fast-paced environment, with a process improvement mindset
• Proactive attitude & excellent investigative skills in dealing with complex issues and identifying solutions
• Able to maintain composure while working within tight deadlines
• Proven success working remotely for a US company
• Detail-oriented. Accuracy is key
• Embrace challenges and look for ways to create efficiencies
• Act with integrity and build trust as you contribute to your team and company’s success
• Learns quickly and is self-directed
• Self-motivated and proactive, with a passion for innovation and staying up-to-date on your skills
• Experience in the health and/or education industries is a huge plus!

The role of this startup HR Payroll Specialist is to be the leader of all payroll and contractor pay initiatives for multiple small companies that are under the same umbrella.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Own and manage all Payroll activities including maintaining a timely and accurate payroll process and reviewing all changes in benefits, taxes, and state filings
• Register states for payroll; we have both remote and onsite employees and are currently registered in 8 states; additional states will be registered as a result of expected growth
• Point of contact for all Payroll related questions to all employees.
• Support Accounting in all areas of reporting and reconciliation of payroll-related costs, and create regular and ad hoc report requests on different payroll metrics
• Monitor and maintain payroll controls and guidelines.
• Maintain employees’ Expenses, including detailed reviews and creating a tracking process
• Assist with external audits, as well as regulatory reporting obligations
• Work closely with our Director of People, Talent, and Culture, Director of Operations, CFO, and bookkeeper
• Support and own any ad-hoc payroll projects given
• Act as additional support for other off-cycle payrolls as required
• Support the team on automation, system integration, and other projects as needed
• Additional HR or Operations tasks as needed
• The ideal candidate will thrive in a small team—managing everything from the day-to-day responsibilities through monthly/quarterly strategic planning.
