Job Description

WHO WE ARE

We’re a small, fast-growing web design agency that works primarily with life coaches. We aim to get more coaching into the world by helping certified life coaches to promote and grow their businesses via beautiful and strategic website design.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an experienced part-time Assistant Web Developer who can help our clients grow their businesses by providing high-quality website development in Elementor.

Currently, our lead developer (her name is Dawn) is doing all of the website development for our clients. She is getting ready to transition into a lead developer role that includes project management responsibilities, so we need to free up more of her time for that.

You will be reporting to her, with the owner (that’s me, Jennie) popping in now and again to give input. It’s time to bring in you, an assistant web developer, to take ownership of our clients’ development needs and hone your skills under the tutelage of our lead developer!

You have the ability to develop websites in WordPress using Elementor flexbox that reflect the Figma design our designers create. You have a fine eye for visual detail when creating in Elementor. You’re comfortable with responsive web development so our sites look good on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Oh, and you get a sense of delight when the lead developer asks for changes to a developed page because you know that every revision will make the end result even better!

You’re willing to learn and hungry to improve your craft. You love spending the day reading up on and toying with the latest Elementor features, and get a thrill when you find *just the right* setting to use to avoid having to use CSS to create a design. You’re reasonably quick to create developed pages without sacrificing quality (though we don’t expect you to be a superhero), and you’re keen to educate yourself with our education and course library so you can get even better at Elementor.

You have the ability to communicate in English with our team and our clients. You have a fast computer with a reliable internet connection. Ideally, you also have some kind of backup internet, as well as a headset, microphone, and video camera for team meetings.

You’ll report directly to our lead developer (Dawn), and she’ll give you feedback on your work. It’s fine if you work normal work hours in your time zone, though we will meet weekly via Zoom at a time that’s reasonably convenient for the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your job will be to use your past experience to:

– Develop websites in WordPress using Elementor flexbox that reflect the given Figma design with a fine eye for detail
– Set up design settings in WordPress’s theme and the Elementor Site Settings in preparation for development to begin
– Keep up with the latest updates and features in Elementor so we can revise our systems to use the most efficient workflow possible
– Apply a competent knowledge of HTML and CSS to do lite customizations to pages when what we want to achieve isn’t possible with Elementor’s default widgets
– Communicate clearly with the lead developer when stumbling blocks come up so we can resolve it quickly and move the project forward
– Improve the processes for development projects so that we can improve capacity

EXPERIENCE

We care more about a high skill level than years of experience, but we expect that you have at least 3 years of experience and a high level of confidence in Elementor development and responsive website creation.

You have proficient knowledge of Elementor and intermediate understanding of how implementing Figma designs works with Elementor.

You’re keen to help improve our development processes and procedures.

You’re comfortable using internal communication tools like Google Drive, Zoom, Slack, and Notion for team collaboration and client relationship management.

You’re also not shy about being (humbly) confident enough to push back on the leadership team and express your opinion if you think the ship is heading off course. We encourage that.

HOW WE WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED

We want you to succeed in this role. We will provide any additional training you may need to get on board and hit the ground running. We’re not going to teach you how to do your job because your past experience will serve you well.

However, we will train you regarding our systems, our products, and our clients so you can apply your skills to help us achieve our mission. We will also provide access to additional design training programs that will help you grow your skills and contribute even more to our team.

We will also listen to you, see you for who you are, and encourage you to bring your entire self to work. We are humans first, work colleagues second.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE

This is a part-time role with the potential to grow to full-time. We’re not looking for an agency.
