Role: IBMi Specialist
Contract: Full-time Remote Contractor (160 hours monthly)
Business Hours: Monday to Friday from 2 PM EST to 11 PM EST. On-Call shifts once every 3-4 weeks.
Rate: $1,000 – $1,200 USD monthly / $12,000 – $14,400 USD annually (Salary is negotiable based on experience)
Availability to Start: June 10, 2024

What you’ll do
As an IBMi Specialist, you will leverage extensive knowledge and experience with the IBMi series Operating System and software life cycle. Your primary responsibilities will include implementing, configuring, and maintaining Power Servers, HMC, VIOS, and Storage. You will manage regular patch updates, including Hiper, CUM, and Group PTFs for IBMi and associated software products. Additionally, you will perform capacity planning, performance monitoring, and management to ensure optimal system performance. Your role involves installing, upgrading, and occasionally migrating iSeries systems. You will also install, configure, maintain, and monitor backup and replication technologies such as BRMS, MIMIX, and PowerHA. Achieving and keeping certifications advanced in assigned products and technologies is essential to this role.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
– Utilize knowledge & experience with the IBMi series Operating System and software life cycle.
– Implementation, configuration, and maintenance of Power Servers, HMC, VIOS and Storage.
– Perform regular patch management, including the Hiper, CUM and Group PTFs for IBMi and associated software products.
– Perform capacity planning, performance monitoring and management.
– iSeries systems: installs, upgrades, and upon rare occasions -migrations.
– Install, configure, maintain and monitor Backup and Replication technologies and software such as BRMS (Backup, Recovery and Media Services), MIMIX, and PowerHA.
– Achieve and maintain advanced certifications in the products and technologies assigned to you
What you should have
– At least 5+ years of experience in Operations/Support of IBM Power and IBMi systems
– Proven experience working in a customer-supporting role
– Working knowledge of IBMi hardware, tape libraries, and Virtual Tape Libraries (VTL)
– Proficiency in installing OS upgrades
– Experience working with LPARs and HMCs
– Familiarity working with IBM VIOS and SAN infrastructures
– System backup and recovery concepts (BRMS)
– Basic system security and networking concepts
– Experience managing data replication and IBMi High Availability
– Ability to create and maintain documentation
– Ability to manage time and effort to effectively deliver on commitments, tracking time where necessary to fulfill services reporting requirements
– Nice to Haves:
— Experience with SAN switches zoning, storage pools, volumes, and mapping
— Knowledge of security and logging on IBMi
— Certification in Cloud Technologies and knowledge of PowerVS
— Familiarity with FalconStor, StorSafe, and Storsight
