Job Description

CRHandrail aims to empower people to easily install handrails and keep their loved ones safe. Our handrails are built to be installed with ease, and our updated installation instructions make the process easier to understand and implement. We currently are a small but awesome team working remotely, and we plan to expand and ramp up throughout the year. We value excellence, teamwork and are serious about our company values (/pages/about-us).

We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented, and highly analytical In-House Accountant to join our team. The In-House Accountant will be responsible for doing (and managing, when we have someone in house to help) the day-to-day accounting activities of our organization, ensuring that financial records are accurate, timely, and in compliance with accounting regulations and internal revenue codes. The ideal candidate should be a licensed CPA with a strong background in tax accounting, financial accounting, and auditing principles and procedures. This is a senior accounting role within the company which means you’ll be actively contributing to the company’s growth by keeping our finances in check, ensuring financial compliance, and adding more structure to how we do accounting.

We sell primarily to the USA, Canada, UK / EU, and Australia and we need to comply with all corporate tax, duty, VAT, as well as all legal documentation / filing, so a background in handling these legal processes is required.

This is a REMOTE opportunity requiring a good internet connection (at least 50MBps), your own workstation, a smartphone with data, and schedule flexibility including the possibility of weekend work when needed.

Key Responsibilities:
– Maintain and ensure business and personal financial statements (e.g. Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow) are accurate, up-to-date, and have proper classifications
– Ensure the business complies with the internal revenue codes of the countries / territories we serve (US, Canada, Australia, UK, EU)
– Ensure all tax filings are ready / done (and use other help if needs be)
– Recommend tax strategies that align with business goals
– Coordinate with each country’s / territory’s CPA & tax filing consultants
– Maintain and manage the recordkeeping of all receipts and verify that receipts are properly invoiced / addressed
– Control the flow of cash (input & approve payments / invoices)
– Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure that financial records are maintained in an organized and efficient manner.
– Conduct regular audits of financial records to identify and resolve discrepancies or errors.
– Work closely with the finance team to develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.

NOTE: we do not use GAAP accounting (or at least not in the traditional sense). We don’t create a lot of different categories and we keep our books really tight. Our QBO is mainly for our own reading (and audit protection by good documentation). We keep categories really tight and simple. One of our core values is to keep it simple and we strictly adhere to this. We do not do things if there is no good purpose for doing it (e.g. the way you are used to doing something is never a good enough reason to do it).

Role expectations & KPIs:
– Accurate Weekly SKU & Channel based Financial Statements (P&L of past 7D and 30D) for each sales channel & SKU (this will NOT be part of QBO; you will need to use different software to calculate this + excel by pulling data manually)
– Quarterly sales and cash flow projection (you will need to talk to other teammates to understand sales forecast; you CANNOT rely on historical data as there are seasonal adjustments, market changes, and market fit changes. This also means that you cannot rely on QBO function/reporting as this will not reflect the business’ needs accurately).
– All legal / tax / VAT filings are done (and tax mitigated) by working with our CPA in the United States.

Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
– Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license highly preferred
– At least 5 years of experience in financial and tax accounting, with a strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
– Experience dealing with offshore import /export duties, VAT, and tax filing
– Excellent knowledge of accounting software, such as QuickBooks and Xero
– Strong attention to detail
– Strong critical and lateral thinking
– Positive and confident personality
– Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

Nice to have:
– US Accounting Experience / US CPA
– Experience with USA, Canada, UK, EU, AU Tax Accounting / VAT filing
– Experience working for a major or Big 4 accounting firm (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, EY)

Some of the perks:
– Competitive pay in line with your experience
– Work from home / work from anywhere
– No time tracker / no micromanagement (but it also means no hand-holding)
– Work in PH Time
– Paid time off on your 3rd month (up to 12 PTO per year)
– PH Holidays

IMPORTANT NOTE: We are not a PH company and do not have an entity in the Philippines. This means successful candidates will be engaged as independent contractors and will be responsible for their own taxes and government contributions.
