Role Description

An IT Assistant, or Information Technology Assistant, is a professional who provides support to an organization’s information technology (IT) department or team. Their role involves assisting with various technical tasks to ensure the smooth operation of computer systems, networks, and other IT infrastructure. Here are some common responsibilities and tasks associated with the role of an IT Assistant:

Technical Support: Provide assistance to end-users by troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues. This may involve responding to help desk tickets, emails, or phone calls.

Hardware Maintenance: Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.

Software Support: Help with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of software applications used within the organization. This includes operating systems, productivity tools, and specialized software.

Network Support: Assist in the setup and maintenance of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). This may involve troubleshooting network connectivity issues and ensuring proper security protocols.

User Account Management: Create and manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights. This includes setting up new user accounts and deactivating accounts for employees who leave the organization.

Security Measures: Implement and maintain security measures such as antivirus software, firewalls, and data encryption. Help educate users about IT security best practices.

Backup and Recovery: Assist in implementing and managing backup solutions to ensure data integrity and facilitate data recovery in case of system failures or data loss.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of IT systems, configurations, and procedures. This documentation is crucial for troubleshooting and training purposes.

Hardware and Software Procurement: Assist in the procurement process by researching and recommending IT equipment and software solutions based on organizational needs.

Collaboration with IT Team: Work collaboratively with other members of the IT department to address complex technical issues, implement projects, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the IT infrastructure.

Technical Support: Provide assistance to end-users by troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues. Respond to help desk tickets, emails, or phone calls and resolve technical problems promptly.

Network Support: Assist in the setup and maintenance of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and assist with network hardware configuration.

Security Measures: Implement and maintain security measures, including antivirus software, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems. Stay informed about security best practices and help educate users.

Data Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup solutions to ensure data integrity and facilitate data recovery in case of system failures, data loss, or disasters.

Collaboration with IT Team: Collaborate with other members of the IT department to address complex technical issues, implement IT projects, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the IT infrastructure.

End-User Training: Provide basic training to end-users on IT systems, software applications, and security best practices. Create user guides and documentation as needed.

Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor IT systems for performance and security issues. Generate reports on system status, performance metrics, and security incidents as required.

Qualifications

Administrative Assistance, Executive Administrative Assistance, and Clerical Skills
At least 1-2 years experience assisting an executive
Excellent phone etiquette, verbal, and written communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, both internally and externally
Experience with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and other basic software tools
General IT knowledge & experience
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Experience with data entry, record keeping, and maintaining files
Edits and drafts documents produced by others
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field is desirable, but not required.
