Laravel Developer / Strong backend & analytical thinking skills

We are logging for an intermediate to expert level developer to help us develop financial tools & applications. We’re looking for someone who is skilled in the Laravel stack ( PHP & MySQL) and who also knows, or is willing to learn Python in the future (including AI specific libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Data analytics etc..).

This will be a challenging, but FUN, role where you will be able to flex your software development & critical thinking skills on a daily basis.

We’re really looking for a great long-term working relationship here that can be fun and collaborative – we want to make sure you enjoy what you are doing, and love coming to work every day.

We don’t care where you are based, and we’ll do most of our communication async (ex: Trello and Slack), but we would ask that you be available to be “online” (ex: Zoom or Slack) for discussions, brainstorming, and collaborative problem-solving 1-2 times / week during US East Coast Time – GMT-5. (we can work out a schedule that works for both of us)

You’ll be helping develop applications, tools & reports for the financial markets (Stocks & Options). Most of the programming will be backend tools (database, laravel commands etc..), but there will also be some web development for reporting and other tools.

You will be provided detailed specs and guidance – we’re developers too (and first!) – we understand how important good instructions are! We’ll provide realistic, and detailed as possible specs, but we’ll also be relying on your expertise and experience to provide feedback on the best way to go about specific implementations.

We’ll also want to have discussions with you and brainstorm on concepts together – we’re looking for someone who not only enjoys coding, but also enjoys solving tough technical problems together. As part of this collaboration, good written & spoken English skills will be needed.

Previous experience in the financial markets (stock, options, futures, forex etc..) is a plus for this role, but not required. However, you will be expected to learn some basic to intermediate knowledge in these areas if you are not yet familiar. We’ll help by providing content, buying you books or courses etc.. but you’ll also need to be willing to spend the time, and be passionate about learning new things.

As part of our hiring process, I always have new team members to do a small test project to show their skills and make sure we are able to work well together, and communicate properly.
