We are looking for a Virtual Legal Assistant / Paralegal (Responsible Staff) to join our team and support our caseload growth in our Atlanta, Georgia office.
The ideal candidate will be a fast learner, a self-starter, and very detail-oriented.
Willing to work full time and following night shift hours – EST (Atlanta, Georgia Time)
Experience as a paralegal or legal assistant for a firm based in the United States is a must
Experience as an attorney in the Philippines or possession of a Juris Doctor degree or Bachelor of Laws is a plus.
We will provide additional training specific to our processes within our systems.
Responsibilities:
– Track deadlines and ensure that deadlines are met
– Save electronically filed documents into the system correctly
– Provide case updates for clients and communicate with clients
– Keeping our matters up-to-date in our system (Including updating facts, Ensuring employer information is correct, and
Ensuring client information is correct)
– Scheduling Depositions/ Arranging for Court Reporter/ Sending out Meeting Info
– Scheduling Deposition prep with clients
– Scheduling Meetings for attorneys
– Onboarding clients in our client portal
– Generating complaints from our automated system
– Keeping in regular contact with our clients (including updates)
– Locate and interview witnesses
– Gather records
– Draft EEOC Charges
– Calculate damages
– Draft complaints
– Serve Complaint
– File litigation documents
– Draft deposition notices/Subpoenas and file/serve
– Draft and respond to discovery
– Review, analyze and database discovery responses
– Supplement discovery
– Set up mediation and preparation meetings
– Prepare mediation notebooks
– Prepare deposition electronic ‘notebooks’
– Contact and subpoena witnesses for trial
– Draft non-dispositive motions, such as for extensions of time or leaves of absence
– Provide trial support
– Shelling documents
– Gathering lost wage information
– Tracking job searches
– Filing documents with the court and communicating with opposing counsel
– Entering case expenses
– Closing cases
– Other kinds of research and data gathering
Expectations:
Legal Assistant or Paralegal (Responsible Staff) will:
– abide by all firm policies and procedures, and be proficient with all firm technology
– ensure that all deadlines and statutes of limitations are met.
– ensure that all documents are proofread prior to providing them to the attorney for review, and after received from an attorney for sending.
– ensure all EEOC Charges are filed within twenty-one (21) days of the opening date of each matter.
– provide Attorneys with a draft of a Complaint within thirty days of a case opening if a letter of representation has not been received, and the matter is not at the EEOC for a pregnancy or disability claim.
– ensure that all discovery documents are bates-stamped and cataloged in the document management system.
– provide written discovery requests to the Responsible Attorney within two weeks of the filing of the Answer, with a Rule 26 letter for federal claims.
– ensure that the Attorney has a video camera, plug, and appropriate storage for all depositions.
– ensure that the Attorney’s cases do not stagnate.
– work a standard of 1800 hours of logged time on client’s matters, and a minimum of 1900 on the firm and client’s matters.
