Job Description

Seeking a part-time lesson/curriculum writer who can write lesson plans and standards alignments to guide teachers in the delivery of our existing and new STEM/STEAM hands-on building projects for ages 5-14 in tech-arts like Scratch Coding, LEGO robotics, Ozobot, Tinkercad, Minecraft, rockets and plane building, game design, and other themes. Lessons will be aligned with diverse standards, including but not limited to Common Core State Math and English Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, New York State K12 Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standard, among others, and will feature the Engineering Design process, guiding questions, formative assessment/questions, and interactive group work.

You must have experience with lesson plan writing, learning standards, and scope and sequence planning. You will use the lesson template below (or similar) to create lessons similar to the ones you see in the sample unit below. In many cases, we will already have the STEM project steps and screenshots and you will write the lesson around those steps.

Lessons will be drafted and finalized on a deadline and project-managed in Asana. Additional responsibilities may include creating curriculum scopes, standards alignments, and improving/editing existing curricula. Work can be done remotely with periodic scheduled check-in meetings in Google Meet.

Required Experience/Skills:
Must have experience in writing formal lesson plans as created for public or private schools
Must possess strong English writing and communication skills
Must have knowledge of leading pedagogies
Experience in teaching kids 5-14 age is a PLUS
Passion for creating engaging and mastery-based STEM/STEAM project lessons
Excellent research, organizational, communication and writing skills
Ability to respond positively and efficiently to criticism and creative direction
Experience as an educator in some capacity
Experience and confidence in recording tutorial videos a plus but not required
Experience in one or more of the tech-arts below a big plus but not required:
Scratch Coding
Tinkercad & 3D printing
LEGO & Vex robotics
Ozobot robotics
Minecraft Redstone circuits
Roblox Game Studio
Micro:bit microcontrollers
microcontrollers like Arduino and Raspberry Pi a plus
engineering projects like rockets and plane building a plus
board/card game design a plus

We are ready to pay you approximately $15 per lesson. Be sure to closely examine the two docs/links above. Lessons must be written in that lesson template format and have step-by-step instructions like the lessons in the unit sample.

Be prepared to create a sample lesson in Scratch coding, for which you will be paid $15 no matter if we continue with you or not. If we do work together, we have lots of ongoing work. It needs to be on our schedule, in our above format, and on our pay rate. If you work on other models, this is not the gig for you.
