Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Power Distribution Centers, you will play a crucial role in designing, analyzing, and optimizing the mechanical systems and components associated with power distribution infrastructure. Your expertise will ensure the efficient operation, reliability, and safety of power distribution centers within industrial and commercial environments.
Responsibilities:
– Design and develop mechanical systems and components for power distribution centers, including HVAC systems, ventilation, cooling, and fire suppression systems.
– Collaborate with electrical engineers and other stakeholders to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly with electrical distribution infrastructure.
– Perform thermal analysis and heat dissipation calculations to ensure proper operation and longevity of equipment housed within power distribution centers.
– Select and specify appropriate equipment such as chillers, fans, pumps, and ductwork to meet project requirements and environmental conditions.
– Prepare detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, and documentation for construction, installation, and maintenance.
– Conduct site assessments and evaluations to determine spatial constraints, environmental factors, and logistical considerations for mechanical system implementation.
– Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing mechanical design and construction in power distribution facilities.
– Participate in commissioning activities and collaborate with testing teams to verify the performance and functionality of mechanical systems.
– Evaluate and recommend improvements to existing mechanical designs and systems to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety.
– Provide technical support and guidance to project teams, contractors, and maintenance personnel as needed.
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
– Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
– Strong understanding of HVAC principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
– Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent for mechanical design and modeling.
– Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software for analyzing airflow and heat distribution within power distribution centers.
– Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
– Effective communication and collaboration skills for working in multidisciplinary teams.
– Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.
– Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as ASHRAE, ASME, and NFPA.
– Experience in designing mechanical systems for industrial or commercial facilities preferred.
– Familiarity with energy efficiency practices and sustainability principles is a plus.
