Job Description: Network and Infrastructure ICT Engineer
We are an Australian Managed Services Provider (MSP) seeking a Network and Infrastructure ICT Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust and secure network and infrastructure systems. This role involves close communication with our Solution Architects in planning, configuring, troubleshooting, and optimizing network components, servers, and related infrastructure to ensure reliable and efficient operation of ICT services. You will be reporting to our Solution Architect
Responsibilities:
• Design, plan, and implement network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and wireless networks.
• Develop network architectures and configurations that meet business requirements and adhere to industry best practices.
• Configure network devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers remotely as best as feasible.
• Remotely deploy where applicable and manage server infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, storage systems, and backup solutions.
• With the aid of our locally based engineers, ensure proper installation, configuration, and maintenance of server hardware, operating systems, and associated software.
• Monitor server performance, capacity, and availability.
• Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS), and access control policies.
• Monitor network traffic and identify potential security vulnerabilities or breaches. Collaborate with the locally based team to implement appropriate security controls.
• Using our tools, diagnose and resolve network and infrastructure issues, including performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and hardware or software failures.
• With the aid of our RMM tools, conduct regular maintenance tasks, such as patch management, firmware updates, and system backups. Perform network and infrastructure health checks and optimize performance as needed.
• Provide escalation support to the helpdesk as required.
• Create and maintain accurate documentation of network and infrastructure configurations, diagrams, and procedures.
• Develop and present reports on network performance, capacity planning, and security incidents.
• Contribute to knowledge management systems to enhance internal knowledge sharing and troubleshooting capabilities.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience as a Network Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or similar role, focusing on network and infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance.
• In-depth knowledge of network protocols, architectures, and technologies, including TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and wireless networks.
• Strong understanding of server infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems (Windows/Linux), virtualization, and storage systems.
• Familiarity with network security principles and technologies, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and access control.
• Proficiency in network management and monitoring tools, such as SNMP, NetFlow, or packet capture analysis tools.
• Experience with network troubleshooting and performance optimization using diagnostic tools and methodologies.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network and infrastructure issues.
• Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+) are highly advantageous.
