Conversation Partners (English) Wanted!

Hello, we are JAGPP(Japan Association for Global Planning and Association) and we offer a variety of English conversation programs to help Japanese people to be able to speak English. We are now starting a new program called “HEW”, and looking for English-speaking Conversation Partners.

We will have English conversation classes online via Zoom and looking for “conversation partner” for the classes.

[Job Description]

2 on 2 English Conversation Lesson (1 bilingual teacher and 1 conversation partner for 2 students)

Lesson schedule: Each lesson is about 45 minutes long and is scheduled about 10 times a month.

**One of the teachers will work as a bilingual teacher and the other will work as a “conversation partner” to practice English conversation with the students. (This recruitment is for a conversation partner.) The bilingual teacher will teach with Japanese explanations, but the “conversation partner” will support the bilingual teacher by using only English. Therefore, conversation partners do not need to speak Japanese.

Remote (The duties will be performed using Zoom)

[Required Tech & Workspace]
Reliable internet: Min. 5 Mbps upload & download (wired or Wi-Fi, no mobile tethering/prepaid)
Computer: Desktop/Laptop (Windows or Mac preferred)
Camera & Mic: 1080p webcam (built-in or external) and headset with stick microphone (no condenser mics)
Quiet workspace: Private room (bedroom, study, office) required, common areas (living room, dining room) not allowed

[Job Types]
Part-time

[Lesson Schedule]
Time: 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM JST (Japan Standard Time)
Days: Monday through Sunday (excluding Japanese national holidays and New Year’s holidays)
Lesson Duration: 45 minutes per lesson
Initial Frequency: 1-2 lessons per week
Long-Term Goal: 5 lessons per week

[Requires]
*Proficiency in English: native or near-native fluency preferred.
*Must be able to work flexibly during the day and at night, depending on students’ needs
*Responsible and self-motivated
*Be able to speak slowly when necessary.
*Ages 18 and over
*Must have PC/MAC or Large-size tablet
*Must be able to use Google Calendar (used to check schedule).
*Able to communicate frequently via email or Chatwork.
*Familiarity with Zoom preferred
*Prior experience in teaching, especially in English, Education, or Languages, is advantageous but not mandatory. Fresh *graduates are encouraged to apply.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proactive and flexible approach to teaching.
*Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
*The ability to listen attentively and empathetically to others
*Engaging the speaker by showing genuine interest in their thoughts,?experiences, and perspectives.
*The ability to tailor one’s communication style to the situation and the other person
*The ability to liven up the conversation with voice tone and facial expressions The effective use of gestures and eye contact
*Those with an understanding of and interest in everyday interactions, political and economic issues, music, and Japanese *culture are welcome.
