Payroll Officer

The Role
Turk’s Poultry is a family-owned business proudly raising corn-fed and free-range chickens in the Horowhenua since 1966. Now one of the largest poultry processors in New Zealand, we run a 24/7 operation to process, market and distribute a range of premium chicken products to retailers across the North Island.
The Payroll Officer is responsible for administering the payroll function for all of Turk’s employees and any associated subsidiaries i.e.: Kakariki Proteins and Mobile Trade Services to ensure that all personnel are paid correctly and on time. Communication is key – you will need to have great self-management, attention to detail and interpersonal skills and easily build robust relationships with all stakeholders.
Reporting to the Office Manager you will be a member of a team that helps to ensure the business meets its regulatory and statuary requirements in several fields.
Duties
• In accordance with New Zealand payroll legislation and company policies, you will administer the payroll functions for the company and its subsidiaries.
• Accurate data processing for payroll and administration of all employees.
• Prepare the payroll, reports and returns as necessary.
• Process disbursements and reports for external organizations required i.e., KiwiSaver, IRD, WINZ, MOJ.
• Calculate and processing termination payments.
• Liaise with staff and management on payroll related queries.
• Ensure confidentiality of personal and pay records.
• Prepare and maintain personnel files for individual employees.
• Process monthly reports for Finance team.
• Ensure there is a clear audit trail for every transaction.
• Provide timely action for requirements as per everyone’s employment terms and conditions.
• Communicate with HR Advisor/Office Manager any issues and concerns.
• Identify key areas of improvement and where possible implement changes to affect the improvements.

Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will ideally have:
• Tertiary qualification or relevant experience
• Previous experience in a payroll role, at least 3 years.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
Essential skills:
• Excellent interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of people at all levels
• Experience in an advisory capacity, working with management and staff
• Experience with Microsoft Office products including Excel and Word
