Job Description

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU”VE READ THIS ALL THE WAY THROUGH
and can respond to my specific questions. Thank you.

>>>>> OVERVIEW:

This is an ideal position for a creative AND well-organized, hardworking person who can thrive as part of a small but mighty team that cares deeply about doing good work in the world.

I have a small but growing podcast and coaching service based in the southern U.S.., but I serve customers and clients across the country and in the U.K.. I am seeking an experienced Podcast Editor who is bright, tech-savvy, and focused, someone who has the desire to grow with me, and who can help me take this work to the next level.

I’m looking for a team member who comes with “batteries included” and who doesn’t require a lot of micro-management. I do want you to be able to follow instructions but I also want you to bring ideas of your own. And PLEASE… High standards and a positive attitude is a must.

Are we a good fit so far? If yes, keep reading. 🙂
(If not, please stop reading now, and I wish you all the best in the future.)

>>>>> HOURS / Place of Work

1. This position is 100% remote.
2. Hours will vary, but this is project based. I’m expecting you to be able to finish an episode in 1-3 hours, depending on the complexity of that particular file. New episodes are published every Tuesday, though ideally I would like to have several episodes in process at any given time.
3. My goal is to eventually be able to stay 2 months ahead on podcast production.

>>>>> PAY RANGE:

$10 USD and up per hour depending on experience and performance.

>>>>> PRIMARY DUTIES

1. Polishing and finishing all podcast audio files. (I myself work in Garageband.)

2. Identifying, clipping and pulling 1-5 soundbites per episode.

3. Collecting good quotes and mentions from the audio to be included in that week’s copy (which I write.).

4. Setting up weekly content in Buzzsprout based on a Set Up Document that I will provide with that week’s copy.

>>>>> DESIRED SKILLS and EXPERTISE

REQUIRED:

1. Reliable, high-speed Internet access.
2. Excellent English
3. A solid understanding of and comfort working with Garageband, Google Drive, and Dropbox.

HELPFUL:

1. Familiarity with Buzzsprout, Zoom and Trello.
2. Video editing skills are also helpful but not required. (We may add video later, but aren’t using it yet.)

YOU’ MAY BE IDEAL FOR THIS IF:

1. You’re tech savvy and detail oriented…and you have an almost intuitive sense for the flow of sound. You appreciate the quality of a well edited audio.
2. Your English is excellent, so it’s easy for you to grasp abstract concepts or to pull out key quotes and marketable moments in an interview.
3. You’re open to feedback and willing to learn from mistakes, but you don’t beat yourself up about them! We will work through things together.
4. You like to take your time and do a job well, but you can just as easily adapt to a quick turn around and work well under pressure if needed.
5. Your terrific sense of humor really helps on the crazy days.
6. You’re a team player who loves making the magic happen behind the scenes.
7. You have a genuine interest in supporting women entrepreneurs in the wellness industry – counselors, energy healers, acupuncturists, yoga teachers, etc.
8. You understand online marketing and what makes for good content.
9. You can meet a deadline, because I’ll need to have this back in time to write the copy each week!

>>>>> STILL INTERESTED?
Here’s what to do next.

Send an email to me at with “INTERESTED” in all caps in the subject line. In your email, include a cover letter that tells me what about this position interests you, and why you’d like to be considered.

Please send 3 examples of a podcast that you have edited, including show notes if you wrote them.

If you know your Enneagram or your Myers-Briggs Personality Type that would be great.
If you’ve taken the Kolbe A Index Assessment and can give me your numbers that would be even better.

And please take the time to tell me a little about what’s most important to you in a working relationship like this.

>>>>> AND HERE’S WHAT to EXPECT:

Once I’ve collected information from all who are interested, I’ll narrow the field down to 3-5 finalists. They will be invited to join me for a 30 minute video-based interview on Zoom. I’m in the Eastern (New York) time zone.

From there, we’ll talk about a trial project that I’d like you to complete over the next 14 days, and agree to a fee for your time as well. I’ll pay you in full for your time at the end of that 14 day period and after reviewing your work.

At that point, I’ll make a decision and we’ll move forward from there.

>>>>> MORE ABOUT MY WORK, and about IDEAL PRACTICE:

1. WHO I AM: I am a long-time practicing licensed psychotherapist and business coach who helps wellness professionals develop an Ideal Practice, a private practice that works as well for them as it does for their clients. That is, I help them build a business that is “profit centered, but people forward”. The podcast is my primary marketing platform, and you can learn more about it at /podcast.

2. WHAT I CARE ABOUT: I care deeply about empowering others, especially women entrepreneurs, to believe in themselves, own their authority and bring their best work to the world – all while making good money and living a great life.

3. WHAT YOU’D LOVE ABOUT WORKING WITH ME: I am patient, encouraging, and enthusiastic about the work we do. I do have high standards, but everyone makes mistakes, and as long as we figure them out and improve, I’m okay with that. I also really value people who aren’t afraid to speak up when they have a better idea about how to make something work.

4. WHAT WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY: I am a 7 Quick Start on the Kolbe, which means I have a lot of ideas and may move quickly at times. And, I tend to be deadline driven – which can be challenging because I tend to push the envelope with lots of things going on at the same time. and I may drop things to you at the last minute!

5. WHAT IT’s REALLY ALL ABOUT: In the end, it’s about helping the helpers, who are so focused on serving others that they don’t take care of themselves. And for me, it’s about having an impact while still having fun!
