Job Description

Brist Mfg., Bellingham, WA is seeking a senior level product designer to curate accurate and detailed tech packs for our custom apparel program 30 hours per week. This position works closely with our Director of Global Supply Chain and Product Development to ensure the manufacturability and seamless transition of apparel and headwear design concepts through to final product.

To qualify for this contract assignment, we are seeking advanced or fluent English speaking and writing skills, a Bachelor’s degree or certificate in fashion design, apparel production, or a related field, and previous experience as a product designer or similar role within the apparel industry.

You must be able to demonstrate you have technical expertise and knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, grading, and fitting principles and bill of materials. This position requires familiarity and use of industry-standard software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or other CAD programs.

Responsibilities:

>Tech pack and art development: Create comprehensive and accurate tech packs for Brist Mfg. custom made easy apparel projects, including detailed specifications, points of measurement, bill of materials, trims, construction techniques, seam stitching, and any other relevant information required for manufacturing.
>Collaborative communication with the design, product, supply chain, and production teams to gather all necessary information, clarify requirements, and ensure the alignment of technical specifications with design intent.
>Specification Accuracy: Review design sketches, prototypes, and samples to verify accuracy and completeness of technical details, making necessary revisions and updates as needed.
>Manufacturing Standards: Knowledge of factory requirements, production techniques, and regulatory standards to ensure that tech packs adhere to best practices and comply with applicable guidelines and regulations.
>Quality Assurance: Perform thorough quality checks on tech packs, digital samples, and production samples to ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the production process, identifying and resolving any potential issues while maintaining Brist guidelines.
>Documentation Management: Maintain organized and up-to-date documentation of tech packs, revisions, and project-related information, ensuring easy accessibility and retrieval for reference purposes.

Requirements:

>Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or certificate in fashion design, apparel production, or a related field. Previous experience as a technical designer, production designer, or similar role within the apparel industry is highly desirable.
>Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, grading, and fitting principles. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, or other CAD programs.
>Attention to Detail: Strong eye for detail and the ability to analyze and interpret design sketches and specifications accurately. Meticulousness in ensuring precision and correctness in tech pack development.
>Schedule Flexibility: Ability to train, collaborate across the organization and attend meetings during standard PST working hours.
>Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with cross-functional teams, including designers, pattern makers, and manufacturers.
>Organization and Time Management: Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Working knowledge of project management programs like Asana are preferred.
>Industry Awareness: Familiarity with current industry trends, manufacturing processes, and regulatory standards for apparel production.
>Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and address potential issues during the production process.
>Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities, and willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
