Qualified Accountant with Xero Experience

We are a Sole Practitioner accountancy practice in Ireland seeking a highly organised, detail-oriented, Qualified Accountant to work about 20 hours per month.
There will be the possibility for these hours to increase as our accountancy practice grows over the next year.

ABOUT US
We are a fully online accountancy practice and use Xero for all clients. As a small accountancy practice, we have a hands-on approach with all our clients and believe relationships with our clients are the most important thing. We ensure all emails are responded promptly and no deadline is ever missed. The practice has grown over the last year and has plans to grow further over the next few years. The owner of JMK Chartered Accountants is looking to work directly with this candidate to assist her with all client’s accounting and tax compliance. Relationships are very important with the owner and therefore she wishes to work with someone who is honest, reliable and trustworthy.

THE ROLE
We are very flexible with when these hours are completed however we will need a commitment that you can work during the following periods;
• Between the 10th – 23rd of Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep & Nov
• Available for calls between 9.30am and 12.00am Irish time (IST) which is 4.30pm-7.00pm PHST (flexible on the day of the week and once you are up and running these calls/ will become less frequent)
Your main tasks will include preparing year end accounts, financial statements, corporation tax returns and VAT returns.
Experience in a similar role with an Irish or UK accountancy practice is highly desirable. However, we would be willing to work with an experienced accountant willing to learn about the Irish tax system.
We are a Xero only practice and therefore we require someone who is highly experienced in Xero and ideally Xero workpaper as well.

DUTIES
1. Prepare bi-monthly VAT returns which include the following;
a. Review VAT return to ensure sales and purchase invoices have been posted to the correct P&L and VAT codes (training will be provided on this)
b. Amend purchase invoices if posted to the wrong P&L account or VAT code (Tax rate) on Xero
c. Preparation of a VAT reconciliation. We use an Irish Software that integrates with Xero called Parolla Plugin to prepare clients’ VAT returns. Most clients file VAT returns on a cash receipts basis so a VAT reconciliation is required to confirm all VAT is correctly captured.

2. Prepare annual year-end accounts which include the following;
a. Review all P&L accounts to make sure all invoices have been posted correctly on Xero
b. Review all Balance Sheet accounts and prepare reconciliations
c. Calculating and posting of year-end journals
d. Use of Xero workpapers to document all work

3. Prepare year-end Financial Statements and Abridged Financial Statements which are to be filed with the Companies Registration Office (CRO) in Ireland (training will be provided on this)

4. Preparing year end Corporation Tax computation in Excel (training will be provided on this)

QUALIFICATIONS
• Very good written and spoken English
• Certified Accountant with proven work experience. Minimum 3 years post qualified relevant work experience.
• Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial procedures
• Experience in preparing year-end accounts and posting year-end journals
• Experience with Xero and Xero workpapers
• Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail
• Experience working with other foreign accountancy practices in Ireland/UK/Australia/U.S
