Job Description

Role Overview: We are a growing start-up company in the real estate industry seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our team. This role is a full-time position that requires real estate accounting experience, investment accounting experience, and knowledge of accrual-based accounting. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller and play a crucial role in the daily accounting and month-end reporting of short-term rental homes management and corporate accounts. Experience in a start-up environment is preferred.

What you’ll do:
* Ensure accurate and timely completion of financial statements for the portfolio of properties in compliance with company policies and US GAAP, including producing month-end internal and external reports.
* Manage the daily accounting activities of the portfolio, including overseeing the month-end close process.
* Conduct detailed reviews of property financial statements (profit and loss statements, balance sheets, general ledgers, and sub-ledgers) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
* Create and post journal entries, including month-end accrual and prepaid entries, and maintain related account reconciliations.
* Manage daily cash account transactions and review accounts payable for proper coding.
* Act as a leader in internal and external customer service, assisting the Controller with more complex issues.
* Respond to external audit requests and ensure compliance.
* Ensure accurate and timely filing and payment of occupancy tax, as needed.
* Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.

What you’ll bring:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
* CPA or master’s degree is a plus.
* At least six years of progressive experience in accounting.
* Strong knowledge of real estate terms, definitions, and accounting principles.
* Familiarity with US GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
* Full understanding of general ledger and sub-ledger.
* Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Experience with NetSuite preferred.
* Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
* Effective and efficient communication skills.
* Demonstrates effective organization and time management skills to meet internal and external reporting deadlines.
* Ability to take on a leadership role when working with peers.

Working Hours: 9am-6pm EST
