Job Description

The Blogsmith is looking for an experienced SEO Lead to join our team to manage our client’s SEO projects, most particularly content strategy, while also spearheading the internal SEO department’s initiatives.

You’ll help us solve SEO concerns, create strategies for The Blogsmith’s clients, lead a team of SEOs, and communicate with managers about planning and implementing projects.

The SEO Lead should be passionate about managing and training SEO team members, comfortable in providing recommendations, and ensuring operational excellence in executing projects. You would be seen as the team expert in all things SEO for this role.

You can work whenever you want as long as you respond to team communications within 24 hours, Monday through Friday, and consistently meet deadlines without micromanaging.
Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities

SEO Strategy Creation, Scope, Proposal, Planning, and Implementation
Scope out content strategy projects, assist in proposal creation, and meticulously plan SEO project details.
This includes direct involvement in content strategy projects along with other SEOs so they can follow your approach when executing the project.
Content strategy projects vary. The most common are keyword list and topic ideation, SEO audits, and custom SEO research requested by clients and The Blogsmith’s content managers.
SOP Development — develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for SEO processes, ensuring consistency and efficiency in execution.
SEO Consulting
Provide expert recommendations on high-level SEO queries from potential and existing clients.
Serve as the go-to person for content managers and other team members regarding SEO-related questions and concerns.
SEO Leadership & Training
Lead and supervise SEO specialists on various projects, providing guidance and support.
Evaluate and monitor the performance of SEO specialists, providing feedback and implementing rubrics of improvement.
Conduct internal SEO training sessions when needed.
Assist in SEO Reporting — we have SEO personnel in charge of setting up and tracking the SEO performance of our clients and The Blogsmith. Content managers will occasionally ask you to analyze our/a client’s SEO performance and document all the wins we have achieved for certain clients.
SEO Investigations
Work with the team to share SEO knowledge and strategies. That includes sharing key takeaways from helpful resources to improve The Blogsmith’s processes and investigating other SEO tools we may add to our stack.
Investigate the impact of algorithm updates.
Understand and fix any technical SEO errors being flagged by Google Search Console.
SEO Content Review — review The Blogsmith’s blog outlines and drafts as needed to ensure alignment with SEO best practices.
Off-page SEO/Backlink building tasks
The Blogsmith has a beta offer for link building for our existing clients. You will help review our clients’ link profiles to see which page needs the most backlinks, vet link prospects, help build reports, and track performance from backlink campaigns.
Investigate link builders to determine which link-building agencies we can partner with.
Analyze backlink pitches for The Blogsmith’s website to determine if collaboration is worthwhile.

Other Responsibilities When Needed

Keyword Research — This is the typical task of SEOs every week. When additional support is required, you will work through a list of keyword research steps and analyze data to find the best-fit keyword for proposed topics and justify them.
In-house Technical SEO/Website Management:
In-house: Work with The Blogsmith’s website to make on-page and technical SEO updates when needed.
Investigate and fix technical issues concerning The Blogsmith’s website (errors in Google Search Console or errors flagged by our SEO tool’s site audit reports).
Assist in contacting support personnel if there are issues concerning The Blogsmith’s website (sending a ticket, getting in touch with support through email, chatting with the hosting provider or web developers, etc.).
SEO Sales Tasks — preliminary content ideation and website audit for potential clients or answering SEO-related queries to win new prospects.

SEO Skill Requirements
3+ years of experience in executing various content strategy projects such as content ideation and SEO audits (required).
Advanced knowledge of search engine optimization techniques (On-Page SEO, Backlink Building, Technical SEO).
1+ years of leadership experience in managing an SEO or other teams.
Knowledge of advanced SEO strategies such as programmatic SEO, conversion content, advanced technical audits, and measuring SEO ROI.
Client-facing experience at an agency.
Proficient with SEO tools, specifically Semrush/Ahrefs.
Excellent writing skills.
Expert with tools to evaluate SEO performance (Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, Google Looker Studio, and others).
Excellent project management and organizational skills.
Soft Skill + Availability Requirements
Outstanding communication skills: You’ll be working with fellow team members and clients to accomplish tasks. We sometimes have tight internal and external deadlines, so timely responsiveness during the workweek is necessary to work on this team.
Great attention to detail. You will be in charge of reviewing documents and instructions provided by clients, which you’ll need to communicate to other team members. Paying close attention to detail is essential to ensuring the client’s instructions and goals are successfully achieved for each project.
Excellent interpersonal skills: Besides communicating clearly, team members should be good at managing relationships with internal and external collaborators.
Problem-solving skills: When there’s an issue, The Blogsmith’s teammates use their resources and each other to get it solved before it becomes a bigger issue.
Organization/planning skills: Successful team members don’t wait until the day a task is due to get their questions answered or address any issues.
A passion for quality: For our team to create great content, you must take an interest in the process.

Benefits and Compensation
$18/hour for 15-20 hours/week with the potential for more.
Work 100% remote.
Flexible work schedule, with some hours needed during 9-5 MST hours
