Job Description: Short-Term Rental Accounting Specialist (Canada)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Short-Term Rental Accounting Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing financial aspects related to short-term rental properties listed on platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, Marriott Bonvoy, and private stays across Canada. The role primarily involves reconciling accounts, overseeing trust accounting, managing payroll, ensuring accurate tax remittances (including GST, PST, MRDT, hotel taxes), conducting monthly and quarterly financial reporting, and demonstrating proficiency with the Ximplifi accounting platform.
Responsibilities:
Reconciliation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records by reconciling financial transactions from various short-term rental platforms, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Trust Accounting: Manage trust accounts for rental properties, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining a clear and transparent accounting trail.
Payroll: Oversee payroll operations for rental property staff, ensuring timely and accurate compensation distribution.
Tax Remittances: Prepare and remit taxes as required, including GST, PST, MRDT, hotel taxes, and other applicable taxes, adhering to government regulations and deadlines.
Financial Reporting: Generate monthly and quarterly financial reports that provide insights into property performance, revenue, expenses, and profitability.
Credit Card Reconciliation: Regularly reconcile credit card transactions associated with short-term rental operations, identifying discrepancies and addressing any issues.
Ximplifi Expertise: Leverage expertise in Ximplifi or similar accounting software to streamline processes, manage financial data, and enhance efficiency in reporting and analysis.
Compliance: Stay current with local and federal regulations pertaining to short-term rentals, taxes, and financial reporting, ensuring full compliance at all times.
Communication: Collaborate effectively with property managers, owners, and relevant stakeholders to communicate financial updates and address inquiries.
Problem Solving: Identify and resolve any discrepancies, inconsistencies, or errors in financial records promptly and accurately.
Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate existing accounting processes and recommend improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
