Hypothesis is seeking a Sysops Administrator to join our team and to help us build highly engaging products. The person hired for this role will play a pivotal role in bringing value to our customers and contributing to our vision of a world where annotation is as common as comments, but more useful and engaging. Though we operate remotely, we are a close-knit team that communicates via Slack, video chat, GitHub and Notion across 8 time zones.

About the role

As a SysOps Engineer at Hypothesis, you will play a critical role in supporting and driving the infrastructure and development operations of our exciting and fast-growing company. Your primary goal will be to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our systems as we tackle new challenges in the annotation and research collaboration space. Your expertise in Amazon AWS technologies will be crucial as you design, deploy, and manage cloud-based solutions. You will also collaborate closely with the development team to streamline the deployment process, implement CI/CD pipelines, and drive automation initiatives. Your responsibilities will encompass monitoring system performance, identifying and resolving issues, optimizing infrastructure, and ensuring seamless integration between systems. You will also support SOC2 certification, you will implement and maintain the necessary controls, procedures, and security measures to meet the rigorous standards. By actively contributing to infrastructure architecture discussions and collaborating with cross-functional teams you will contribute to the continued growth and success of our company. This role will report to the VP Engineering.

What you’ll achieve

• Take ownership of the infrastructure and development operations, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security as the company tackles new challenges.
• Design, deploy, and manage cloud-based solutions using Amazon AWS technologies.
• Monitor system performance, identify and resolve issues, and implement proactive measures to optimize infrastructure.
• Drive automation initiatives and implement CI/CD pipelines to streamline the deployment process.
• Collaborate with the development team to provide infrastructure requirements and support their deployment needs.
• Support the pursuit of SOC2 certification by implementing and maintaining necessary controls, procedures, and security measures.
• Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes, enhance system performance, and optimize resource utilization.

• You take a proactive approach to automation, driving CI/CD initiatives and implementing efficient processes to streamline the deployment process.
• You demonstrate adaptability, quickly learning and adapting to new technologies, tools, and frameworks as needed.
• You possess strong troubleshooting skills, effectively diagnosing and resolving issues, and providing timely support to minimize downtime.
• You embrace a growth mindset, seeking opportunities for personal and professional development, and continuously improving your skills as an engineer.

Experience

• Strong experience in managing and maintaining infrastructure on Amazon AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, and Elastic Beanstalk.
• Proficiency in working with databases, particularly Postgres, including installation, configuration, and performance optimization.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Ansible, enabling automated provisioning and configuration management.
• Proficient in version control systems, such as Git, and experience with platforms like GitHub for collaborative development workflows.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies, specifically Docker, for building, deploying, and scaling applications.
• Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) principles and experience implementing CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience in monitoring and observability tools, enabling proactive system monitoring and identifying performance bottlenecks.
