Job Summary
Priority Haulage is in search of an experienced and highly skilled Management Accountant to join our dedicated team. This critical role involves overseeing the financial operations and aiding in strategic decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will be adept at preparing detailed financial reports, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations. The role demands a blend of analytical prowess, technical accounting expertise, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement in financial processes.

The primary responsibility of this role at the outset will be the preparation of Monthly Management Reports, a task that takes approximately 10 hours each month. These reports must be completed and delivered by the 5th business day following the end of each month. As the role progresses, additional tasks and responsibilities will be incrementally assigned, leading to an increase in workload

Job Responsibilities
• Prepare and analyze monthly management reports using Xero and Microsoft Excel, focusing on delivering strategic financial insights.
• Facilitate the development of dashboard information and reports for enhanced business intelligence.
• Develop and maintain detailed budgets and financial forecasts in Xero and Microsoft Excel, aiding in effective financial planning and resource allocation.
• Accurately prepare annual financial statements and tax returns, ensuring they reflect the highest standards of financial accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure all financial activities adhere to the latest tax regulations and accounting standards, promoting a culture of compliance and best practice.
• Actively support the Accounts Manager with bookkeeping tasks, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and a commitment to financial integrity.
• Maintain records, manage databases, and adhere to filing systems in line with company policies, upholding the highest standards of organizational efficiency.
• Regularly contribute innovative ideas for operational improvements, focusing on enhancing automation, workflow, and process optimization.
• Agilely respond to and manage ad hoc financial tasks, showing adaptability and a proactive approach in implementing and managing responsibilities.

Knowledge and Experience
• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, ideally in management accounting, with intermediate to advance proficiency in Xero software.
• Understanding of New Zealand tax regulations, or a willingness to learn.
• Strong grasp of accounting principles and practices.
• Experience in a Chartered Accounting Firm and with CCH Workpapers highly beneficial.
• Proven robust analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Familiarity with the transport industry is advantageous.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with other relevant business and accounting software including:
o Xero
o ChatGPT
o Notion
o Power BI
o Deputy
o WhatsApp
o Slack

Qualifications
• CPA: Associate member of the PICPA is preferred.
• A degree or diploma in accounting.
• Certification in Xero or other relevant accounting software.
