We are a growing email service provider seeking a full-time Technical Operations Engineer to join our team. This role is integral to our operations, serving as a key player in managing our technical infrastructure, handling escalated customer support issues, and improving our processes through automation. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, with specific experience in AWS, Docker, Terraform, and scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PHP.
Responsibilities:
Manage and monitor our AWS infrastructure
Handle escalated technical issues related to our email services, including direct interaction with customers
Develop and maintain scripts for automation and system management
Ensure critical systems are monitored correctly using tools like Site24x7 and StatusCake, and manage our alerting stack through PagerDuty
Review centralized system and alerting logs, including application data, security logs, and system logs
Conduct Unix system maintenance and monitoring, with experience in Ubuntu 14-22
Manage databases, including MySQL and Postgres, both on and off RDS
Create and maintain SOPs, runbooks, and technical documentation
Own the backup and restore process, including regular testing
Work on disaster recovery planning and execution
Post the previous statement in the first line of your response
Work closely with software developers, understanding Scrum and GitFlow methodologies
Skills:
Strong knowledge of AWS, Docker, Terraform
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PHP
Familiarity with SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, DNS
Experience with Spam Filtering Rules, Phishing Emails, Email Header analyzer
Familiarity with Slack, Freshdesk, YouTrack, WHMCS
Experience:
BA degree (Computer Science preferred but not required)
3-5 years of experience in a similar role
Experience with advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer certification is a plus
Fluent in written and spoken English
Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the CTO and will work closely with the support team and software developers.
Performance Metrics: Success in this role will be measured based on SLA adherence, direct customer feedback, and the effectiveness of the tools and automations created. The quality of response and the ability to accurately diagnose and solve customer escalations will be most important.
