Purpose of the Role:
The primary objective for the Video Editor is to craft visually captivating and high-quality video content from raw footage provided by our videographers. This role demands a unique blend of technical skill, creativity, and adaptability to both follow and lead the narrative where necessary. While storytelling is an essential aspect of the role, not all projects will require narrative techniques. The ideal candidate should excel in creating videos with seamless transitions, embody a strong sense of pacing and rhythm, and be adept at making editorial decisions that enhance the viewer’s experience, with or without a storyline.
Key Responsibilities:
– Video Editing: Edit raw footage into polished video content for a variety of outputs, including short-form social media posts and long-form podcast interviews. This involves creating seamless transitions, maintaining a coherent visual style, and occasionally incorporating storytelling elements to elevate the content.
– Seamless Transitions: Apply advanced editing techniques to ensure smooth transitions between shots, making each video visually cohesive and engaging.
– Software Proficiency: Mastery in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects is essential. Familiarity with Final Cut Pro (kept cut) is required for specific edits, ensuring versatility across editing platforms.
– Content Adaptability: Differentiate between content that requires storytelling to enhance the message and content that focuses solely on visual appeal and information delivery.
– Basketball Knowledge: Utilize knowledge of basketball to edit footage in a way that captures the essence of the game, the intensity of the moments, and the stories of the players and teams. Previous experience with basketball video filming and editing is highly desirable.
– Creative Input: Collaborate with the content team to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to each project, ensuring the final product aligns with the project goals and audience expectations.
Key Attributes:
– Adaptability: Comfortable working on a diverse range of projects, with the ability to switch between storytelling and straight-cut editing based on the content’s needs.
– Creative Vision: Ability to tell compelling stories through editing when required, and to enhance video content through dynamic editing techniques.
– Technical Mastery: Must have expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, with the capability to use Final Cut Pro for certain projects.
– Basketball Enthusiasm: A strong passion for basketball and sports, with a keen interest in storytelling through sports content.
Formal Education:
While a degree in Film, Media Production, Communications, or a related field is preferred, it is not a requirement for this role. Practical experience and a strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of video editing skills are highly valued.
