If you’ve always wanted to make videos that get hundreds of thousands of views, now’s your chance!
I’m looking for a video editor, who specializes in long-form, but can also do short-form. This would be a half-time to full-time position to edit videos for a YouTube channel, which specializes in educational entertaining content (think TierZoo). We need someone who is proficient in editing, is able to simple graphics/animations, and is also able to adapt their style to match the current style of the video.
It is crucially important that you have a strong grasp of the english language as our videos are on paleontology, zoology and similar, so being able to understand scientific terminology, and doing research is a must. If paleontology is a personal interest of yours (i.e seen documentaries, reads about it in spare time, etc.) then this role will be perfect for you.
The process of the job would be that we provide you with a script and audio that matches the script, and then it will be your role to find supporting images and videos (and create some simple short motion graphics if needed). The videos and images will be sourced from movies, documentaries, google, art websites (deviantart, artstation, etc.), and studies – so being able to research and google proficiently is important. Video upload schedule is around 1 – 2 long form videos a week (of between 10 – 20 minutes in length), and 2 -3 short form (60 – 90 seconds, generally based on already existing videos).
To qualify for this position you need to be:
1. Experienced video editor (and experience with motion graphics / simple animations)
2. Highly proficient in English
3. Proficient in research so that you can find the best clips and images
4. Fast and diligent learner – always looking to improve and will take time time to understand things like scientific concepts in order to best add value to the video
5. Organized and punctual with delivery
6. Learns from feedback – providing the same feedback every time without change grows tedious and I want someone who actually learns the feedback we give
7. Do not be afraid to ask questions!
8. You can use whichever professional video editing tools you prefer, but preference for DaVinci for final editing (for timeline compatibility)
This is a position that can grow as the channel(s) grow over time, meaning that this job can evolve and change over time (also, to show me you read this whole thing put “I like dinosaurs” in the subject heading along with whatever else you want); who knows maybe in the future you’ll help me lead a team of video editors for multiple projects! Salary seen depends on time and proficiency.
To apply, please send me your portfolio of videos and let me know if you’re open to doing a test video (applicants who are will take priority over others).
