Hi there! I am an entrepreneur and communications coach focused on helping emerging leaders improve their professional speaking skills to elevate their careers. Over the past decade, I’ve worked as a sports broadcaster, majored in Communication at Stanford, coached public speaking at MIT, built a tech startup helping people improve their public speaking skills, and have a 10-year career forming business partnerships at companies like the NBA and Lucid. Today, I post at least 2 short-form videos per day across TikTok (144K followers ? @prestonchin), Instagram (91K followers ? @prestonchinspeaks), YouTube (2.3K followers – @prestonchin), and Facebook (2.7K followers).
I am specifically looking for a standout video editor to help grow our following to 1M followers across social media by the end of 2024. Are you similarly motivated to help people improve their communication skills? Are you willing to identify opportunities to improve the quality of our videos today? Are you a natural self-starter? Are you willing to go beyond the scope of your job description? If so, let’s talk!
Responsibilities:
— You will edit and deliver 2 short-form vertical-format videos per day, 6 days a week (12 edited videos per week)
– You will edit the A-roll footage I provide for each short and incorporate b-roll from my personal video library and stock footage (I’m reluctant to use video from other sources due to copyright infringement risks)
— You will collaborate regularly with me throughout the editing process and be responsive
— You will add to our existing B-Roll library by collecting screen recordings and incorporating them into the videos
— You will ensure that videos have a consistent branding and aesthetic, while also using experimenting with different editing formats
Skills:
— I don’t care about # of years of experience. I want someone who’s really good at editing (ideally way better than me) so that I can fully trust that you’ll handle the composition, audio, and look and feel so that each video is highly professional, consistent, and stellar
— A-Roll: I will send raw files of my talking head video takes. There will be mess-ups/re-takes. It’s your job to polish these takes so that each of the commentaries sounds smooth.
— B-Roll: Having plenty of cuts is crucial to maintaining attention. I need you to collect, organize, and incorporate B-Roll shots that support the underlying commentary
— Extra flare: You need to be able to incorporate the crucial flare elements (audio, captions, graphics. video overlays) to each video that keeps our audience engaged, all while adhering to our brand guidelines and overall aesthetic.
— Communication skills – this is a must, particularly given the focus of the business. You need to listen to and take feedback, communicate openly and honestly both in writing and in calls, be willing to ask questions and be comfortable pushing back when you disagree
— Entrepreneurial spirit and ownership – I will handhold you initially. However, I expect that once you get the hang of things, you should be able to deliver high-quality edits without needing much prescriptive direction
— Salary: I intend to pay $100 USD for every 12 edited and approved short-form videos (~90 seconds or less). This is ongoing work with no defined end date. I’d expect 12 videos produced per week because I post at least 2 videos per day.
Requirements: If you apply, please submit a short cover letter explaining why you’d be the ideal candidate for the role. Please include the word “comms” at the top of your cover letter so that I know you’ve read this entire application. Please also share a link to your portfolio, showcasing past projects you’ve done.
Next steps: After reviewing your application, I will reach back out if we think you’d be a good fit and may ask to meet you over a quick video call. You’ll then complete a trial task (edit 3 shorts) and I will pay you $50 USD for your efforts. After evaluating your trial task submission, we’ll reach out to you to let you know if we’d like to extend an offer.
