Job Description

Do you know WordPress, PHP, Visual Studio including C#, and Linux like the back of your hand? Love creating websites, including making them stand out against the competition? Want to work in an environment that craves efficiency and innovation where your ideas on improving systems are highly valued?

We’re seeking a webmaster to update (and then maintain) our and our client’s portfolio of domains, most of which are not currently live and producing traffic. This includes online sales of products, as well as online scheduling for our clients. We have domains in the space of insurance, real estate, accounting, and legal services business.

The position starts on a per-project basis to see if we’re a good working fit for each other. This means you will begin working part-time (or stay at part-time if you wish), and potentially progress to full-time if things work well. The transition is likely at least 12 months, so if you want to work full-time in the next few months, this may not be a good opportunity for you.

Business growth has forced my hand into realizing the best way to stay productive is to find someone who is passionate about websites and is looking for a long-term position that puts their talent on display for the entire world to see and experience.

The ideal candidate will have a four year degree in computer science. Several years experience working with WordPress, PHP, SQL (various flavors), firewall and DOS prevention best practices. Militant about backups and failover plans so we don’t experience downtime, and if we do, we don’t lose data or content.

Along with our customer facing websites, a secondary desire is knowledge in Asterisk (we currently use Freepbx), NextCloud, TrueNAS, Drupal (Backdrop), SuiteCRM, and other PHP driven solutions on our backend. Both will be part of the duties and responsibilities of the administrator.

While it would be great to find a web admin with web design talents as well, web design within WordPress isn’t the most important quality we’re seeking. However, being able to work with web designers in order to get the mission and objectives reached is. Also, at least some web design skills is likely required, especially early on when we’re bringing dozens of domains online that are idle.

We have several industries we work in, including a real estate agency wanting to use the WordPress theme Houzez, we list properties for sale and we also want to create one or two page websites using WordPress (albeit we’re open to change and suggestions) for each property we have for sale. For our main site we use an API written in C# and currently developed at the beginning stages in-house to get and update property listings. Understanding how to improve the API is essential. using Houzez (along with Elementor) will have to be fully re-made (or fixed) in order for the full functionality to work. We have a C# API app populating the real estate listings that will require further development.

Also, as a real estate agency, we want to showcase properties and make it super easy and a great experience for potential clients searching for properties, as well as receiving notifications etc…

As an insurance agency, we have

This is a management position in so much as the ideal candidate will be able to receive general guidance on what the websites need to do, and then go ahead on their own and make it happen. This includes making sure all SEO best practises are followed as we are in some of the most competitive industries online there are (insurance and legal services are the most competitive, high-value online real estate there are, and then comes real estate and accounting services, so you will need to bring A grade talent in order to make sure the websites are super fast, super easy for users to experience, and stay online all the time.

Also, we want to create websites for our clients. Websites, while relatively simple in most cases, that will increase the value of doing business with us with our clients.

We have, albeit haven’t executed on, WooCommerce (Woo) shopping software. We want to actually use the software purchased in order to highlight and sell our client’s products. An understanding of WooCommerce is helpful, albeit not needed provided all other skills are highly developed as Woo should be an easy learning curve given it uses WordPress and Elementor as building blocks for the user/shopper experience.

Other related functionality as required.

A sum of online skills talents required include PHP, OAuth2, Apache, Linux, Elementor, WordPress (including WP -All Import, Custom Fields, XML, Gravity Forms, writing to PDF forms from the website, using DB data as well as user inputs to populate), Webmin, Virtualmin, MS IIS, Duplicati, RETS, SuiteCRM, FreePBX, XML, CSS, PfSense, Cloudflare, Vultr, G suites (email hosting and integration), Ubuntu, Drupal (Drupal isn’t required, albeit a well qualified candidate will have at least some experience with setup and maintenance).

The position will require self-direction and execution without details as to how to accomplish the objectives. Again, this business comprises multiple and distinct parts, insurance, real estate, e-commerce, legal services, and accounting/bookkeeping.
Therefore, unless you have at least four or more years of commercial online content hosting administration experience, and the strong ability to self-manage and prioritize, this isn’t likely a good fit.

The standard requirements for this type of position applies. Namely a quiet working environment without outside noise and/or distractions, a stable high speed internet connection, a modern TWO MONITOR desktop or workstation, and reliable electricity.

Due to firewalls and security, as well as our legal and contractual requirements involving the security and safeguarding of information, all work is performed via remote desktop to a computer that has direct access to the servers. A direct connection outside of the local server firewall is not an option. The remote desktop computer does have multiple monitors for efficiency.

Please note, because the primary office is located in the same time zone as Chicago, some work, as well as some meetings will be outside your standard working business hours, albeit most work will be performed during the hours of your choosing that are mutually agreeable.

A reasonable expectation is to spend about 5-15% of the time outside of your business hours and 85-95% your local time. More in the beginning, and less once you’re comfortable with our systems.

A typical work week will have a great deal of flexibility in regards to the number of hours you want consistently. HOWEVER this position does require quick response time reaction if one or more of the websites isn’t functioning properly, so being on call and the flexibility to work through a problem is essential, including nights and/or weekend work when the situation requires (including the above mentioned meetings and planning sessions). If you would like to receive a reply to your inquiry, please INCLUDE THE WORD summer in your subject line, as well as a full resume, and finally, your availability schedule, so that we know you’re very serious as well as have a careful attention to detail.

I look forward to meeting a high energy and attention to detail website manager
