Job Description

Whatley Company is hiring a full-time Web Developer (Shopify and WordPress). Your primary responsibilities will be to build Shopify (Liquid) and WordPress (incl. Elementor) websites for our clients. Additionally, feature additions, maintenance, and troubleshooting will also be required from time to time.

Whatley Company is a fast-growing provider of e-commerce stores and websites for funded small- to mid-sized startup companies. We’re especially experienced in the Internet of Things industry, with over 10 years of experience within the connected home space.

Note: If you are not a highly-skilled and expert Shopify/Liquid developer, please do not apply.

**Characteristics you’ll need:**
– High attention to detail.
– Fluent English speaker and reading/writing.

– Ability to reliably estimate the amount of time needed to complete a set of tasks or projects.
– Be comfortable speaking up if you see or notice issues or spec clashing that could affect the quality of project output.
– Enjoy learning new skills within your job’s responsibilities.
– Someone with high business intelligence, who can understand the reasons behind decisions from more than just “the developer’s perspective”.

**You’ll be responsible for:**
– Developing websites & e-commerce sites using Liquid, PHP, HTML/XHTML, CSS, through Shopify (and WordPress/Elementor for non-e-commerce sites) based on artwork provided in Figma and Illustrator.
– Using JS/jQuery when needed for interactive and motion elements.
– Ensuring compatibility with multiple screen sizes/responsive layouts.
– Ensuring websites and stores are optimized for speed and fast load times.
– Making sure technical SEO best practices are followed in your development and work with an SEO analyst to make improvements.
– Communicating project status, issues, and timelines.
– Building transactional e-mail code (HTML/CSS) based on Figma/Illustrator artwork (preferred, but not required).

**Technical Skill Requirements:**

You must be an expert in:
– Shopify 2.0 infrastructure, theme development techniques, and best practices.
– Liquid/HTML5/PHP/CSS/SCSS
– Developing for responsive layouts
– App and theme speed optimization
– WordPress Development with Elementor

You must be skilled in:
– Figma and/or Illustrator (for exporting and reviewing specs, not for design)
– JS/jQuery/other JS framework for interactive web elements and motion effects
– Interacting with MySQL databases
– HTML E-mail Layout

Preferred experience (but not required):
– Working with REST APIs
– Git (service, setup, and implementation)
– Shopify with Single Sign-On
– Shopify Hydrogen (any framework)
– ClickUp or other project management tool

**Benefits (beginning after 3-month probationary period):**

**Schedule:**
– 8-hour shift, M-F. 8am-5pm PDT, MDT, CDT, or EDT (your preference)
