Job Description

Job Title: Welding Engineer – Project Based Contract – Ad hoc work

Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced Welding Engineer to join our team. The Welding Engineer will lead critical welding projects, ensuring the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety in our manufacturing processes. This role requires extensive industry experience, AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification, proficiency in non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques, and expertise in military standards.

Key Responsibilities:

-Collaborate with design engineers to review weldment designs, provide input on manufacturability, and ensure adherence to military standards and specifications.
-Lead welding projects from conception to completion, overseeing all aspects of welding processes, procedures, and performance.
-Develop and implement welding procedures, specifications, and standards in accordance with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and military standards.
-Conduct welding inspections and quality audits, utilizing NDE techniques and AWS CWI expertise to ensure compliance and quality assurance.
-Evaluate weldability of materials and recommend appropriate welding methods, filler materials, and heat treatments to achieve desired results.
-Provide technical guidance and support to welding operators, technicians, and production teams, ensuring proper execution of welding processes and procedures.
-Investigate welding-related issues and root causes of defects, implementing corrective and preventive actions to improve process efficiency and product quality.
-Stay current with advancements in welding technology, materials science, and military standards, incorporating relevant innovations into welding processes and procedures.
-Participate in internal and external audits of welding operations, documentation, and compliance with military standards and regulatory requirements.
-Mentor junior staff members and provide training on welding techniques, quality standards, and safety protocols.

Qualifications:

-Good to have, but not required: Bachelor’s degree in welding engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
-AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
-10+ years of experience in the welding industry, with demonstrated expertise in welding processes, procedures, and quality assurance.
-Proficiency in non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques, including visual inspection, ultrasonic testing, and radiographic testing.
-Strong understanding of military standards and specifications (e.g., MIL-STD-248, NAVSEA Technical Publications).
-Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot welding-related issues and implement effective solutions.
-Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and teams.
-Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all welding-related activities.
-Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
-Professional certifications in welding engineering or related fields (e.g., Certified Welding Engineer, NDE Level III) are a plus.
