Job Title: Wood and Metal Framing Estimator

Overview:

The Wood and Metal Framing Estimator is responsible for accurately calculating the costs associated with wood and metal framing for construction projects. This role requires a deep understanding of construction practices, and materials, and the ability to interpret blueprints and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Analysis:

Review architectural and engineering plans to determine the scope of work.
Interpret project specifications, plans, and requirements.

Quantity Takeoffs:

Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for wood and metal framing materials.
Calculate the amount of materials, labor, and equipment needed for each project.

Cost Estimation:

Prepare comprehensive cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Use estimating software and tools to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Budgeting and Scheduling:

Develop project budgets and timelines based on the estimates.
Assist in creating project schedules that align with the estimated costs and timelines.

Bid Preparation:

Prepare and submit bid proposals for construction projects.
Collaborate with the sales and project management teams to finalize bids.

Supplier and Subcontractor Coordination:

Obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for materials and services.
Evaluate and negotiate prices to ensure competitive and accurate bids.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and project-related documents.
Prepare reports for management and clients as required.

Client Interaction:

Communicate with clients to clarify project requirements and address any concerns.
Provide professional advice on cost-saving measures and alternative materials.

Continuous Improvement:

Stay updated with industry trends, construction methods, and material costs.
Implement best practices to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the estimating process.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator) are a plus.

Experience:

Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry, specifically with wood and metal framing projects.
Familiarity with construction management software and estimating tools.

Skills:

Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Working Conditions:
Office-based with occasional site visits.
Collaboration with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients.
Standard work hours, with the flexibility required for bid deadlines and project timelines.
