Job Description

WordPress Developer (We will be accepting applications until 8/21, so if you apply early and don’t hear anything for 2 weeks don’t worry. We are just waiting until we have collected all applications).

*** This is a 3rd shift position. We are located in Colorado and you must be available 9-5 MST to be able to work and co-ordinate with the rest of our team. Do not apply is you are unwilling to be available during these hours.***

This person will support a portfolio of client websites with the guidance of Digital Director and Senior Developer. You will be responsible for Website Development of new websites, Care and Ongoing Improvements for our clients’ websites.

Job Function and Necessary Skills:
1. Building Websites using WordPress
Install and Configure wordpress on hosting
Install themes
Install themes from zip files and/or wordpress theme
Install and customize Child theme
Format look and feel according to client branding using CSS in themes
Migrate content efficiently from previous WP installs
Determines best approach to build features using WordPress Core, plugin/theme purchase or building from scratch
Confident with page builders – Elementor, Divi, WPBakery, etc.
Configuring WordPress to send emails via SMTP using WPMailSMTP plugin
Create forms using WordPress form builders
experience with form builders – Gravity, WP Forms iss a plus
must be able to create forms from scratch
must be able to migrate forms from previous form builders
Test website on mobile, as well as desktop devices
Implement Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and marketing pixels
Use wordpress locally for development
Use of DDEV (docker based) for local development
Use command line tools
Use ssh and public/private key management
Use rsync for copying files from remote servers to local workstation
Confident using git for source control of all file-based assets in the website (theme, plugin, etc)
Comfortable building wordpress features using core features such as Custom Post Types, Tags, Taxonomy, Shortcodes, Menus, 2. Blocks, Widgets
Efficiently creates additional resources in WordPress using plugins or code
Experience with Advanced Custom Fields is a plus
Comfortable extending themes or plugins with php using wordpress hooks.
Confident in using xdebug and step based debugging for server-side code
Confident in installing and configuring woocommerce
Confident in explaining and using all core product types, and other product types available via plugins
Confident in customizing the look and feel of woocommerce product, cart, checkout pages and emails via hooks and custom templates
Create and modify wordpress page templates/layouts with with page builder or php code when necessary.
PHP – must be able to write modern php code, including object oriented php.
Must be intermediate to advanced in CSS, preferably also using SASS
Javascript – must be very competent with modern javascript and jquery
nice to have: experienced with Vue 3
Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn Generate Press
Experience with Gutenberg blocks
Use existing Gutenberg blocks for content and layout
Create new Gutenberg blocks if necessary
Experience with Elementor
3. Understand technical aspects of website speed performance, and analysis:
Use plugins when appropriate/necessary
Provide recommendations on optimizing speed – from code to assets (e.g. images)
Be able to work with and set up correctly tools such as Cloudflare, WPRocket, SEO Yoast
4. Work with hosting providers:
Domain registrars – configuring nameserver records
DNS – configuring dns records for websites, A/CNAME/TXT and other related records for SMTP (MX/TXT/SPF/DKIM)
Troubleshooting web server configuration across popular hosting providers like WPEngine, godaddy, bluehost, siteground
Troubleshooting caching issues
Creating web-server redirects
Configuration of apache and nginx webservers
Identifying A/CNAME for webservers
Identifying nameserver and registrars for hosting
Navigation of CPanel and WPH, identifying hosting accounts, FTP, usernames, SSH keys, etc.
5. Maintain technology updates:
Themes
Plugins
PHP
Websites uptime via software – respond to issue alerts
Keep all plugin and theme code must be pushed into GIT
6. Maintain content updates >> this is also a cross-team skill, but we need someone who’s not “too good” for the simple things:
Copy
Images
Videos
New pages, etc.
7. Problem Solve/Research – be able to find solutions to custom functionality needs. WordPress and WooCommerce are at the heart of what we do. PHP, JS and CSS must be your best friends.
8. Communicate – communicate with internal and external teams on progress, challenges, recommendations, etc.
9. Organize – keep track of website technology, access and licenses, per client, following established company tracker, and document steps followed in custom website management tasks (anything beyond the standard plugins, content updates)
10. Admin:
Track and report time via company HR software
Attend team meeting and lead discussions related to website work/projects per client
Attend client meeting as needed to provide technical recommendation and guidance
Assist in developing processes to make our team more efficient and effective
Assist in developing new business proposals and presentations
Lead the development and communication with clients to enable them to stay successful with their websites – e.g. lead and record video calls via Zoom, provide simple, step-by-step how-to guides
Once per quarter lead internal team training 1-2 hours to share knowledge and help everyone understand the line of work (at a level suited to enable sales)

We are looking for someone who can jump right in and make an immediate impact. If you are not 100% comfortable with all of the requirements above, please do not apply. We are not looking for someone we need to train on basics or coding. We need to be able to give you a very complex problem and have you figure out the solution on your own.

This is a 4 part interview process. Once you have submitted your application, we will have you submit a video interview. Selected candidates will then be asked to take a test on Testgorilla for CSS, WordPress, and Website competency. Selected candidates from here will be asked to do a paid test. We are going to give you a simple, medium, and hard task to complete to again demonstrate competency. Lastly, the top 3 candidates will have a Zoom interview to meet the team to make sure we are a good fit. After all the interviews, a formal job offer will come via email.
